The OG

The OG

Someone called me that today. I’m honest enough to say I didn’t know what it was, but as I left the lift in my building suggesting to the other occupant to join the Facebook page, I created pre-Covid to create community, I told him I’m the admin.  He said “Oh, you’re the OG!” I gave him a hand signal I often use to communicate “cool”.

Once inside my apartment I consulted Google. I will let you do the same. I think it’s the Hipsters version of someone who is wise and is connected. Although I’m not sure Gangster has the best sentiment. I generally associate that term with something you want to be on the right side of. You have those friends not enemies.

I have friends that have those friends. It’s safe enough for me.

Dear Neighbours

Dear Neighbours

Dear Neighbours, just asking if my music is too loud? I’m in the West Building on the 2nd floor overlooking the street. If you did wonder when I bought the home theatre system? A young Asian guy from Marketplace at the start of the Covid Pandemic.

It did create the perfect opportunity to get the amp I needed to allow me to play my CD’s. It was the only component I needed to complete my home tech set-up.

The Asian students that live in Melbourne for study making a mass exodus because the Aussies don’t know how to wear masks, cos we really don’t.

The young guy upon my query of the home theatre would be too loud for my apartment and would peel the paint off the walls?  It’s the rule of thumb I have for volume. He told me it would be, but I could just not play everything loud. As if.

One good thing for the pandemic? It created a false economy where I could get the things I couldn’t afford at any other time. Oh, wait, my bad.

Meanwhile, I digress, pre-the Plague I started a group on Facebook for the building. I had wanted to create community because living in an apartment is easy to never see your neighbours and if you are isolated it’s impossible to know who are your good neighbours.

So, my CD Player holds five and it’s just hit the pre-2000’s N.I.N.’s part of the current selection. It’s great in headphones at the gym. But my neighbours probably won’t like it any more than my mum did when I lived with her around 2000.

I guess, the neighbours can message me their complaints. Wingdings will be the only font I will accept.

Punchline

Punchline

So, continuing on about the whole Social Media thing, I think I just created a punchline to an old joke. Hear me out. Have you heard the one about?

A tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it?
Does it make a sound?

Then I confess, I forgot the next line and then a tree falls in the forest and lands on a mine, does anyone care?

Someone throws a comment out on Social Media and nobody likes or comments. Should I kill myself?

Ok, clearly not planning to kill myself, however people really take stuff seriously on Instagram and such, they really don’t cope if people don’t or can’t respond.

It escalated fast didn’t it?

I just think people should be strong, independent and learn to stand on their own two feet. Don’t be afraid to ask for help of course, but be strong in your convictions, learn, be educated. Have your own opinion.

You can listen to other people’s opinions, but have your own first. It’s also OK to change your mind, however only after you have all the facts.

Social Media

Ok, I think I made a joke, let’s see if you agree or just hear me out. Tell me your thoughts please.

You know the whole Social Media thing everyone else is on? That I am not. People on Instragram, Twitter and the like.

Yes, yes, I do have a blog and I did eventually get on board the Facey-thingy. Reluctantly.

But it seems some people only have conversations if they are being shared with 5,000 followers and of whom want to be in on the conversation, concentrate on other people’s comments and spread the hate.

I know I sound old, when I say some people are more interested in other people’s opinions than actually watching a documentary, or such to learn about it from the horse’s mouth (so to speak) than make up their own minds.

I’ve come to the conclusion, maybe people would rather communicate with people they don’t know, because they might live around the world from them and not in close proximity (is this safer?) or because they share a mind-set?

Because I guess there is the whole catfish thing. FYI I really am now a 46-year-old single barren spinster living in Melbourne Australia, advocating to/for people with brain injuries, with a cat.

Why anyone would make this shit up to get friends they may or may never meet is beyond me.

Retirement

Retirement

I had a day off yesterday! I know, right? It’s nice to imagine being retired every day, is a day off. But alas, no! I do not have that kind of retirement; my weekdays are often filled with the appointments that help keep me going. Maybe, I’ve mentioned previously, chiropractor, acupuncture, shiatzu, myotherapy, GP appointments and the list goes on. I’m not even seeing a physio or an OT at the moment.

So, as I said, yesterday I had a rare day off. I confess, I slept until 1pm, with a false start at around 9.30am when my Mepacs alarm woke me. Damn blast-it. I blame Facebook for my late night… Oh, early morning the night before.

Facebook

You know Facebook, you see a cute cat post, (yes, I’m that person) and the stupid thing won’t share it, so you spend 2 hours going through your newsfeed trying to find it again.

Case in point why I only get on once a week or so to do more then return messages and daily pokes. Yes, I’m that person trying to keep it alive, but when I finally surfaced I spent the afternoon making and returning calls, often both phones at the same time, emails.

And I still didn’t manage to put it all together to have lunch until 5.30pm.
