I Don’t Know Who Needs to Hear This – Part 2

I Don’t Know Who Needs to Hear This – Part 2

So, it was 6.30pm Friday evening and I was literally writing this post in my mind. My scissors (mentally, I pronounce them with a Q after the S and before the U). My scissors that live in a vase with cutlery on my kitchen bench have gone missing.

Did they go walking with:
A) 7.15am The Askol Delivery guys?
B) My Carer.
C) My handyman guy
D) My friend that came to collect the old washing machine at about 5pm who will give it to someone he knows through all the charities he deals with? Or
E) As I mentally write this sitting at the dining table, I see something black sticking out from some paperwork on the dining table only to discover the scissors.

Sometimes, there’s a really good reason we did not buy another pair of scissors today while shopping although a spare pair of scissors never goes astray.

Also, while people think I cope really well, this is on an average day of late. It could also explain why this day having made three trips to my car parking space in the garage on foot mostly without my AFO or walking stick (my aid’s) I have a very lazy left leg.

I just realise today where I picked this up, I don’t know who needs to hear this is. Shout out to “Shabaz Says”.

Soulmates

Soulmates

Many years ago, when discussing soulmates with a female friend, back in our 20’s when one of us (ME) still believed in soul mates.

I remember throwing the idea around with her, where was this soulmate?

We decided and wholeheartedly agreed. He was lost.

I may have mentioned this?

I suggested, did he need a Melway’s?

  • It’s the thing on paper we used to navigate Melbourne before Google Maps.

Yes, someone pointed out Google Maps said friend replied. My soulmate needed an inter-galactic Melways.

What I have found in recent years is a few old club male friends I never thought to date, I only ever saw them as friends, have reached out and wanted to ‘catch-up’ with me. One of those even had a medical condition all his own he had dealt with. (Now, 10 years in remission).

The difference being, he had a partner to support him. He had children he could still work; he could even continue to study. He told me he understood my disability and to call on him anytime I needed something. Have I heard from him again? No don’t be ridiculous.

Apparently, I’ve met my soulmate, he just has yet to work out that, that soulmate is me.

When Disability Becomes Embarrassing – Part 3

Stacey

The following day, I went looking for a particular speaker and topic at the conference, that others in my group were looking for.

It was something about “sex after ABI” for example. I find the right room and joined some fellow guys I already knew. This won’t be awkward right? Since he had given me his business card, the night before.

Sex after ABI

The guys I knew and I looked around thinking we were in the wrong place because it seemed everybody else in there were “industry-types” service providers, whatever.

Industry Types

Then in came the presenter.

That’s right, Stacey!

She started by recognising there were more industry-types there than she expected. I suspect she had wanted to empower people with ABI’s that sex could still be a natural part of life post ABI.

Sex is natural

Here’s an example:

Stacey2 (not related to Stacey) had, had a stroke. She had her stroke while having sex (a little rumpy, humpy) with her husband.

Stroke during sex

There was a moment of sadness in the room when we heard this. Apparently, the married couple had a very healthy sex life before the stroke.

Healthy Sex Life

So, when in hospital, when she was able to get up and move around, they attempted to have sex in the hospital.

Sex in the hospital

Must put this one on the bucket list.

Bucket List

We were made to understand it was perfectly normal and for them vitally important to be able to continue and maintain a normal sex life for them as part of her rehab and existence.

Sex in Rehab

You might ask how they did this?

Stacey informed us they did it standing in the bathroom with her holding onto the handrails. And success apparently.

Sex in the Bathroom

Now, Stacey 1, asked us a question. She asked us, what happens when we reach climax? (or orgasm). The room was dead silent.

What happens when you orgasm

I piped up,

“What? Your muscles tighten?”

Stacey was impressed and said I was correct. The industry-type people checked me out wondering how I knew.

How do you know

Exactly!

So, I struggled a little and said,

“It’s been a while, but……”

It's been a while

The following day, at the end I walked Stacey out because I had enjoyed spending time with someone ‘normal’ as you do surrounded by numpties all the time. She thanked me for being her “Conference Friend” Sad face…

Sad face

Stay tuned for the lesson I gave Fred.
