The Average Day of Getting Shit Done

Today’s title seems like an angry way to start but it is what it is. Yesterday I went to get out on hellonwheels when the poor girl could barely get out of B1, (basement carpark) so after limping back to my shed to put her back on charge and confirmed she was actually charging (it was), meanwhile my phone in my bag was going off, surprising, considering the amount of concrete I was under.

Back upstairs, I called to reschedule my physio appointment again. I should be getting there to get electrocuted every fortnight but lately every time I book my appointment, I end up needing to bump it, to prioritize something else.

Then, I go through my mental list of the calls necessary to get my scooter back to being a problem solver and not a hindrance. So, I call the people that used to solve it before the NDIS.

I start all my calls the same way, “Hi, I’m Helen, how are you?”  And after I start this way, they usually assume I’m calling on someone else’s behalf, WTF! She is ME people!

I am distinctly aware most people don’t call on their own behalf, but this is how I get shit done and I can’t rely on anybody (should I finish the sentence there?) to do all the things for me to keep me independent.

Don’t take my grumpy tone as complaining, I’m very appreciative I can do this stuff, but I could do without the Busy-Work.

Moving Target

Moving Target

I often use the term each day as a Moving Target and I use this in the context that every day is a moving target. By the end of each day, I need to be in less pain, be less tired by the end of the day, have chiseled things on my mental to do list. Have eaten three meals a day. This rarely happens, FYI, I’m ok if it’s two meals and a coffee. My day revolves more around getting sleep, getting to appointments and home again, plus meals or sustenance slots in around these things.

More importantly, I encounter less people I want to kill or deserve to be killed. Harsh words I know. Not advocating to be set loose with free rein here. Not killed anyone yet. Don’t intend to start, but I also limit myself around people and groups that piss me off. Also, the most important thing every day is to get through the day without a migraine. Can we do just that?

Everyday life seems to throw challenges in my face to make that nearly impossible and if I do these things in the earlier part of the day. What will I not be able to do later in the day? It’s always either/or never both.

I have been told I’m very blunt, admittedly I’ve been told many things and blunt is a bit of a compliment.

Today, as my case manager and I walked back from the chemist to a quick shop at my very local supermarket, I asked him to follow-up on a ‘chore’ I’ve not had any success with. He went to ‘put it in his diary’ to do later.

I’m just saying why put off for later if you can do it now?

So I gave him my mobile phone and directed him to search “XYZ” so he could do it as we walked. He prompted “Do you have enough credit?”

“Luv!”

He is a sweet young guy man, but I call everyone “Luv” these days (I’m 45 years old)

“I pay enough on my phone account so we never have to have this fucking conversation again”

And we are not 12!

He complemented me on my bluntness as we both laughed.
