Crazy Cat Lady

So, it is to say I think we are well overdue a crazy cat lady post. About a month ago a neighbour offered to take me out to the Cat Protection Society. We should all be aware she definitely meant Cat Protection Society. I had hoped to bring home a kitten. I was asked if I wanted a boy or a girl. Plus several other questions which I just wanted to smile serenely and say “Yes!” But alas, we were a bit early for kitten season, “I’m sorry, what?” I thought kitten season was all year round. Alas, if you also thought that you would be wrong also.

Kitten season falls between November and April. Which would be the warmer months here in Australia. My Oracle of Life just told me something completely different. But my friend, the mother to her four existing felines and one human and a foster Mum to boot and I were not so easily discouraged. We went to peruse the cats in the neat, clean and well set out cat hotel. We know it’s a cat shelter, but hotel sounds better, right? Stickers on each cat window indicated if the cat was ready for adoption, could live with other cats or dogs or what kind of environment would be ideal, family, no children, quiet older household, etc.  You can open the door to the cat condo’s and meet the cats, using hand sanitiser in between obviously, and if you were really keen on a cat you could lift it out of its hidey hole and snuggle it or take it into a meeting room to spend a minute or two getting to know each other.

Anyone else thinking this is how dating could work better? I mean, don’t answer that.

We both met a few adorable cats. I met a beautiful guy called Ginge. He was a surrender cat. But he gave me head butts and I got him out and held him. I could have left that day with him and returned for a kitten a month later, if my friend didn’t point out to me, he had a medical note on his profile. We asked and he was prone to UTI’s. Poor bastard, my friend pointed out that would mean a special diet and expensive vet bills ongoing, I could not afford. So, alas we both departed empty handed. He was later adopted so that’s a happy outcome for Ginge.

Another couple were there and were also meeting and greeting the different cats. I suggested to them we should all just move in there, keep the staff to manage the litter trays and we could just spend all day and night with all the cats.

I don’t know if it’s obvious or not? I only have one cat, singular, however I practice being a multi-cat household often – at least in mentality, if not in reality.

A friend has five and I often point in her direction when meeting other people who start the cat conversation and they will look at me to suggest I should be advising my friend that she has too many. How dare they? I shut it down by informing them its inspirational. My friend catches on and tells them she used to have eight cats and even she realised that was to many and she rehomed three to her father.

Always Recruiting for My People

Always Recruiting for My People

You know those moments when Crazy Cat Ladies just can’t help themselves? I’m sorry in advance.

I was recently in an apartment standing in the bedroom, my carer measuring an area that was quickly deemed too small for my bed. The real estate guy asking why I need such a big bed? My Dad made my bed when I was about twenty-four and I’m not giving it up. Even more so because he’s gone, so he can’t make me anything else. I mentioned as much but four days later he was showing us another apartment and I’d thought of a better response, telling him, “It’s for all my future cats!”

Yes! C’mon! If I didn’t just nail crazy cat lady, I don’t know what will. He asked how many I have? Just one, so far.

You know those days you feel people you interact with will never forget you? I mean for good reasons; I like more of those please.

I’m hoping this young guy will help me lock in my forever home and if he can work for me as much as he will work for the seller, he’s got pudding coming his way. Pudding is not how I recruit my people, but it never hurts. Is that a bribe?

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Going to rush through some important updates first if I may, have had a series of MRI’s to rule out a second disc bulge, and anything new going on with my brain. MRI on my head, results, still got a brain up there! (Not sorry, brain injury humour) and lower back MRI. No second disc bulge. Check! Friday’s upcoming post particularly important for reasons why I don’t want another disc bulge. Stay tuned! So, next, thoracic spine MRI and yes! I have a spine! And there is good news and bad news! I love this game, I win it every time, it goes like this.

MRI

The Good News! There’s nothing wrong!
The Bad News? We still don’t know what’s causing the problems/pain you are experiencing!
Next!

Good news bad news

Have been particularly tired this week, don’t know if anybody else has felt it? I always flick a message to a friend who is particularly switched on to such, her reply did not disappoint! “Yup! There are 6 planets in retrograde and the lions gate is open!!!!Definitely something in the stars and planets!”

Tired

Prompting me to reply, “Jesus, Mary and Joseph! There’s a lion and a gate? Are we in Narnia?” caught up with my Boo (sweetheart name for one of my gay friends) last week for dinner. Upon reminding him I have Mika he promptly stated I’d given up on finding a husband? Ggggrrrrrrrrrrrr!  Move on!

Narnia

In less than two weeks Mika is settling in nicely. She is insisting space on my lap in the evening on top of the polar-fleece covered blanket. Making it very hard for me to eat my dinner, as I am in that slump where all meals are consumed on the couch on my lap! Also, when I want to go to bed I have a grumpy cat not wanting me to move.

Mika 1

Ms Tina one of my crazy cat lady friends dropped in last week to meet Mika and the look on her face when I told her Mika only eats dry food! Priceless! Admittedly, that is 15minutes every Friday I just got back not standing in the supermarket trying to work out what the damn cat will eat this time? Mika will be introduced to wet food. But slowly for a varied diet and not gravy-based, the complete opposite Jamima’s preferences, the Neko Cat Lounge paperwork recommended Mika wouldn’t respond well to runny food. Must reset mind-set!

And getting back to the point of today?

To write future blog posts. Socialise at my regular cafe and great tasty food. Today’s offering, something a bit different today although I might not eat the bread. Panino Milanese, (What’s that? I hear you ask, exactly) It’s Coletta, cos lettuce, salsa, Augusta and mustard mayonnaise, with the side salad and medicine!

Fur Baby

In Memory Of Jamima

This one is for TRT (Tummy Rum Tuesday) which is my absolute favourite post to read on a Tuesday. I always save it for last.

Jamima Patch Pirate Cat Puddleduck! (Is her official name) Jamima Puddleduck was the name she kinda came with and we added the rest because of the patch of colour over her eye and early penchant for liking to sit on our shoulder. Just like a Pirate’s parrot…

Jamima Puddleduck

Jamima came from a house across the town that had 5 cats! 5! And there were three litters of kittens all at once. I know. Bit extreme that all five cats were not fixed. Jamima was a runt of her litter apparently. She came home with my housemate and I when she was five or nine weeks old. Two of the other kittens (black and white boy and a girl) were adopted by B’s mum who paid for all three to be de-sexed, which was nice.

I would love Jamima to have had kittens as she would be much more settled and calmer now, but I also know her kittens would have been even harder to part with.

I bonded with Jamima early, I guess I kinda become her mother. B, the cool now housemate previously mentioned would put her on his turn-table and played with her a lot.

Turntable

But he also did the “Bad-Parenting” letting her scratch the bejesus out of things that should not be scratched.

Jamima and I have moved four times now and she’s now 15-ish. Housemate ‘B’ lived in the first two houses and then sadly, he decided he couldn’t afford real rent. You know, to have had a proper roof, a bathroom that wasn’t falling apart and we were no longer housemates.

He was really chilled-out ‘cool’ housemate and I miss him, but I made it clear when we weren’t housemates anymore I was keeping Jamima.

Makes it sounds like he was my boyfriend? Read it again!  He wasn’t. So Jamima is my greatest companion in these lonely days of being a barren, single, crazy cat lady.

Crazy cat lady

Yes, I’ve got the crazy cat lady mentality despite only having one cat.

There are evenings she just stays in bed until I chase her out, insisting this is why I have her. Love her, feed her.

So, I don’t spend every single night on the couch alone, this is her job.

If you are a new Hellonwheels visitor/convert, you might like to check out some earlier posts.

Jamima

Sadly, earlier in 2017 my last responsibility as Jamima’s fur-mum was to take her to the vet one last time. Still now, it makes me very sad. I have not yet welcomed a new fur-child into my heart and my home as moving home has needed to happen first. I miss her every day.

But it’s still nice my followers get to hear how weird and special she was.

You can catch up on her previous post here…….
