Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Last Friday night, had a little tap-ass (I.T.  Crowd reference) before going to see Midge Ure at the Forum. The night before the new rules of no gatherings in public over 500 people. Therefore, no comedy festival.

Anyway, had medicine and Spanish Chorizo for dinner before the band. It made my nose run which was really handy. I sat down and had to inform the woman next to me I was not contagious but didn’t cope with spicy food. I’m a shame on my Nona and my Italian heritage.

Well, this has been a very strange week already. This CoVid19 is continuing to make people think it’s the end of the world! Monday, I visited my friend. Bette in Bacchus Ass! (Bacchus Marsh!) which while further away from me is better than where she used to live. I called it Scumbury. I have written about her but it’s in the next batch, you must be patient. In short, we met in rehab five years ago. I was very cheeky and she has been unable to shake me. I took treats from my favourite cafe and so she didn’t come plain about how much I took I sent a photo of what I didn’t get.

Meet Bette!

Her mind is very sharp. But her body is letting her down. Sadly, I think I got to visit just before they instated shut-down laws. I also heard from three very unexpected people on Monday checking in on me. None of whom were related to me. Which was nice.

Sadly, no contact from family. When I rang my family, I got a lecture telling me if I didn’t take things more seriously and I get sick I would not be getting rescued and I was also told it was assumed I was ok, because I had not reached out.

Overall, I keep more to myself these days out of self-preservation. I’d prefer not to suffer a lecture if I not feeling great already.

Meanwhile, had a scooter adventure yesterday to my local supermarket. This was my haul.

Can you tell me what’s missing? Yes, the T.P!

Meanwhile, hellonwheels had a service last week. This is my effort at a classic car/motorbike/scooter shot, in the bottom of our apartment car park. I go down to the basement every time I’m out on hellonwheels.  I like to open up the motor. (That’s a joke! It’s electric.) Before I put her away to recharge. Because it’s fun.

I hope you will excuse the lack of today’s lunch today, I thought I might overwhelm you.

Cheers,
H

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Apologies my foodie post was delayed this week. My apologies. I had a really shitty migraine. So, have not been out much this week. Happily, had a three-day weekend! Always makes me happy! Had the brain injury self-advocacy group on Tuesday, so started the day with a migraine ended the day without dinner, some hard drugs (Tremadol) and finally nailed part of my New Year’s resolution, got to bed before 1am!

At the brain injury group there were new members present. Another newish member described me as ‘Caustic’ I asked what she meant? Not offended I offered ‘Bitchy’, was acceptable, or ‘blunt’ I just like to be effective. I provided an example. She had introduced me as ‘really friendly and warm but caustic’ and she is probably right. I also bring the funny. Now, let me touch on the Corona Virus. The media is not helping and people are stockpiling flour, long life milk, medications and most importantly Toilet paper (I will now refer to as T.P.)

People need to calm down! Because I need my T.P. because it turns out to be a terrible time to be doing a liver cleanse. Taking my St Mary’s Thistle for my fatty liver, I can’t even give up my closet drinking as I don’t. Add to this the HRT patches I started on Saturday to help calm some of my peri menopausal symptoms gave me an early shark week and a shittier migraine than normal. Couldn’t even get through my chiropractic adjustment without being sick. The rest of my normal Wednesday stuff was cancelled. Home to bed!

Started to improve Thursday and still with all my usual appointments and crazy, hellonwheels tune-up, visit from the vampire (blood test!) and a trip to my podiatrist. And now I’m smashing out this post Thursday evening, the night before it goes live. While I’ve skipped a few meals this week due to feeling seedy from my migraine. I’ve a musical treat. I’ve just gotta get through Friday and Friday night I’m going to see a band. I actually loved this band in the 80’s when I was a teenager and the horrible week, I let Jamima cross the rainbow bridge back in 2016, in my neighbourhood. This time I’m going to see him at the Forum in the city. Here is a clip you can check out…….

This is way too short! Here’s another sample.

And lastly, two stories of the extremes of the attitudes and fall out of the corona virus. A support worker told me both of these from one of her other clients. This about a month ago.
1) While at the butchers getting her clients cat its meat. Yes, fussy cats down here. An older gentleman complained he couldn’t get his muscles because of this Chinese Thing. This was about a month ago. But did you gasp? So wrong! So, so wrong!
2) This other client went to her doctor and while in the waiting room chatted to a Chinese woman sitting next to her about art. She loves art apparently. When her name was called the Chinese lady thanked her. It had been the first conversation anyone had had with her for three weeks. I guess, I’m suggesting we need to do better? Wash your hands. If you have any Symptoms stay home and don’t buy all the T.P. Helen’s doing a liver cleanse! Your welcome!

Cheers,
H

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

R.I.P. last Friday, I lost one of my favourite carers. They are all my favourites they just all bring something different to the party. This carer I will likely write about in a future post. I’m going to refer to her as FP, I only had 5 minutes notice before she arrived for her last shift. I would have FP up to 8-11.5 hours for 1 week every month and often mistaken as my daughter. She has not passed on but merely gone to study for the next stage in her life. I had, had her as my carer for three years! I mean, I had just gotten her trained. She could accurately read my mind, finished my sentences and I got to feed her.

I’m a feeder! I love to send my carers off with something to eat on their way to their next shift. I used to ask FP if her mother questioned me feeding her and the response was this. “If I go home and eat my dinner she doesn’t need to know” I believe this is exactly how she put it. I think she might waste away and her mum might wonder why, I might need to prepare her a care package.

Now, Autumn has arrived in Melbourne and I’m never happier than when wearing full black. It’s a rather strong Melbourne trait and it doesn’t hurt, it’s very slimming. I was down in Cliffy Hill yesterday to see my GP and he loves to encourage me to get on the scales. I fight him every time! It’s been good to catch up on some blog writing, as I will do again today over lunch.

Today’s lunch is the brain grain salad, because sometimes I need all the help I can get and medicine!

After another long day I’ll have to go home and give Mika to sit her down and give her the talk. You know, the one about how one of her favourite people is now gone from our lives.

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Well, you might recall I mentioned a busy social life last week? Yeah, went for Thai one night with my Boo! (My Boo is gay so don’t get too excited!) the following night, those plans fell over and will attempt a Take 2 later in the month. However, have been seeing more films. Monday night went to see The Gentlemen, a Guy Richie film. Or as I referred to it, Eye-Candy!

Really good. Watched a DVD during the day Tuesday. Saw Bridesmaids and gave myself a facial! Seem to come in waves does my social adventures. But takes great planning. So too does making sure I get down-time.

But, Wednesday dawned cooler than usual in Melbourne. Still summer but not complaining. Standard punchy-stabby day and a nice calm lunch!

Need my medicine not as strong as last week. Almost put hair on my chest! Yet, doesn’t manage to keep me awake! Today’s offering is a pancetta quiche with side salad and medicine! (I may be in a foodie rut?)

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day
Well, I am in the middle of a crazy social week. Which is unusual, I don’t often have such a busy social existence but things kept getting moved around and it’s all happened or happening over the whole week.

Last Thursday I went to see Birds of Prey. With Margo Robbie. (She’s an Australian, just saying)

Then today, I saw another film with a different friend. This film I used a free ticket for giving one of my support agencies feedback, so we went and saw Jane Austin’s Emma.

And then I went to church! Well, not a real church but a place I consider my Temple. I love to browse; I don’t get to buy anything. But here are some beautiful pictures so you too can appreciate why I go. Even if I can’t afford to buy anything for have the room for more furniture. My red and white provincial doona cover is my summer pride and joy in my bedroom. It makes me so happy.

And again, keeping lunch simple. Today’s offering is a Mediterranean quiche with side salad and medicine!

Have a migraine today, so really need medicine!

Good Mental Health Day

This week, food made my first bread and butter pudding for 2020!

Also made homemade sausage rolls. They do not look as inviting, so here’s a picture Noelle has found.  The sausage roll is as Aussie as our pies with sauce.

This was Monday’s lunch at home. The quintessential curried boiled egg with lettuce but on pocket bread. Soooo good.

So, hump day has arrived with a ‘Is this week over yet?’

And lunch! Today’s offering is an Azaffarini Arancini with side salad. (Saffron rice/peas and mint) and medicine.

For those curious? Most fires are out & now we have floods! Not kidding! Sydney is a giant swimming pool!

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Despite the next month of foodie posts would have you believe I don’t go out for dinner very often. Saturday just gone I went out for dinner with some friends. They are actually closer friends of a friend who couldn’t make it. So, I went out with a really lovely couple.

Anyway, my neighbourhood has an abundance of gourmet pizza places and burger places. Both exe Saturday night we did Italian pizza. A place called I’l Pizziaolo. Translation, the pizza maker. I did get better taking photos after the first course. In photos it went like this: going with other friends in a few weeks and one of those friends is more Wog than I am. He will cope.

Late Saturday night having already eaten what I refer to as my standard, standard Saturday wog lunch followed by more Italian for dinner. An ache in my side made me think for days, days! I had eaten too much food from the same food group. That being Wog.

Monday, I greeted my carer with the question, what’s in here? (Pointing to my side) Then questioning, kidney, liver? Which internal organ is so pissed off with me? Alas, I think I found another reason why I do not do chilli and pepper. It hurts my internal organs. Still going there again, just can’t eat the home made traditional Italian salamis.

Meanwhile, back to the present. Today’s offering is, a bolognaise arancini with side salad and medicine.

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

This is the time of year Australia stands divided. Do we celebrate Australia Day or Invasion Day? It marks the 232nd anniversary of white man in Australia. The exact date is debated every year, so in simple terms, it’s a day to get together with family and friends, have a BBQ and celebrate our greatest Australian pastime “The long weekend”! In the U.K. it’s referred to as a Bank Holiday.

I do none of those things, instead I use the excuse to make a lamb roast. I ask my butcher to butterfly it for quicker cooking, and easier carving one-handed. I also marinate it with tandoori paste. Might sound odd but try it? It’s just a little different, it’s even better lightly fried the next night and wrapped in some small Lebanese wraps with lettuce and mayo. The rest is frozen and during winter I will prepare a shepherd’s pie. So, the tandoori adds another layer of yum!

I actually went to have the roast Monday night, but having separated the roast from the vegetables, in two separate trays. I bungled the oven temperate and turned it off. So, Monday night I had the wraps. Tuesday night, I had the roasted veggies with the roast.

Today, feels like a Monday, Tuesday I had an appointment at home so it felt like a 4-day weekend. With the exception of smashing out some admin.

Back at my favourite cafe in North Fitzroy. Today’s offering is pancetta quiche with side salad and medicine!

In in case I forgot to feature recently? Mika had a great long weekend too! Let’s see if we can get a feature in Tummy Rub Tuesday?

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Want to keep it simple today. All the effort to have more time for writing, but so far, a week worth mentioning.

Monday, a day of public transport, a tram, a walk, a train and another train then a tram. Went South-Side which I do rarely these days. Tuesday seemed to be bill day, I paid four, including my scooter insurance and I went out on my scooter. You would be surprised how many people jump out of my way as if I intend to mow them down. About as many as those that dawdle all over the footpath taking up every inch of the available space. Those that choose to paste themselves to shopfronts as if that would stop me if I chose to collect some large hood ornaments? I mentioned they had nothing to worry about and my insurance was up to date! It’s the little things in life!

So today, after some extra chores, had to get a box of goodies and a Christmas present to Natalie in Collingwood and trade her my new shoes she mulled for me from Monday.

A regular Wednesday lunch the chicken turmeric salad with medicine.

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

After a nice Christmas break, I’m back at my favourite cafe. Most appointments have returned to normal. Visit to my chiropractor I foresee, me well-adjusted finally and tape on my left shoulder. It’s Tuesday night as I tap this out, but I’m predicting my chiropractor will work on my neck and ask if I’ve had a migraine? I will shrug with a “yeah, sure” and she will ask for how long and I will remind her I am 47 now! So, it’s hard to tell? I’m a every week chiro subscriber, because I need it! When I’m struggling with migraines, ribs out of whatever I might go twice or even thrice in a week. If bloody only the NDIA would get onboard!  Mustards! (It’s a swear word substitute)

Oh, Monday I had a lovely lady’s lunch with my friend Susanne. We had lunch down in Westgarth and then saw a film. I’m still way behind in my films. I had a hamburger minus the bun, another perfect example of why Helen cannot do Insta? I had already cut into it.

We saw “Little Woman” it was not only women in the audience but every now and again a character would do something (not quite right) and there was a little murmur shared around the cinema, then a giggle. If you haven’t seen it, do. It was really good.

I was also given a compliment yesterday, from a friend. I sent her a photo of how I manage my “Out-Tray” near my front door.

She likened me to her Nana, not appreciating being liked to an elderly lady. Hey! It’s okay when I do it? As I refer to myself as a Nona all the time. She responded with her Nana was the most productive woman she has ever known. I’ll take it.

And finally, before the storm hits today to put out some fires and dampen the smoke haze, lunch today is, the old classic pancetta quiche with side salad and medicine! Happy!

Cheers,
H
