Hot off the Press

Monday! Such an early start when some SOB (scratch that) person! Rang my doorbell! I again presume my landlady who should be aware I could drop down and ring her doorbell at 2am when I go to bed and I won’t attempt to rush down her front stairs or if I did I could injure myself. Ah, I guess if I injure myself it’s their fault? Just checking.

Insurance? Ka-Ching! Not worth it but I’m having a little internal chuckle. Game on! So, cannot wait to move!

Adventure

Busy day, adventure to neighbouring suburb. On the povo-trail as I call it. (Povo, short for poverty)
I skipped my Osteo appointment so I could make sure I would be at my best to go see a property close by. It’s cheaper and has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms! Ok, one less bedroom than here. No street view, backyard or grass anywhere, and a smaller balcony than my current backyard. But a potential home for my new cat? Warm in Melbourne, have I ever mentioned 25 is my happy place for warm weather? I am such an old lady remind me what happened to spring?

Poverty trail

Tuesday! Starting to get better with having breakfast before my carer every other week when I have my massage at home, after we went for coffee.
And…..
Oops! Did it again!

Saw my GP, had lots on his list today. Turns out there is no test for diagnosing Thorasic Outlet Syndrome, it’s only a clinic diagnosis. So, I just need that in writing please so I can have NDIA to fund my Osteo, Mio/remedial needs Funding? Mmmmmmmm……. Caught a tram home, I got out part way to visit some shops (all walking distance.) Did some hunter/gathering and decided to walk home via a visit with Wilbur.

Sleeping

Oh, also had some time with this bit of fluff, Frankie whose dad told me he must really like me. Although this is Frankie ignoring me. His dad had gone inside to order and return with more doggy treats.

Frankie

Made it home in one piece with 5,300+ on my pedometer. So buggered didn’t help that it was rather warm today.

Wednesday, my standard Punchy/stubby day without the shabby part. My acupuncturist is away rubbing shoulders with political minds. Dropped in for a visit with Bella. No joy. Scootered home and dropped in for a visit with Matt, who has developed the 9 apartments down the street with his wife and friend. Shared some photos of cars. I don’t drive, but I like a nice car. Here are some photos of the car Matt had worked on earlier that day.

By the end of the day I networked and shared some photos of my uncle’s cars. He has restored.

Otherwise, just some nice photos of cars for you if that’s your thing. (It should not be imagined that I have money, am related to people with money, or have friends with money.) Just an appreciation for nice cars I will never drive.

Ah, must mention before I move on, at the start of the day I couldn’t feel my left foot and most of my left leg and side.  By about 2pm I could as it had started to hurt, stock standard day really. By the end of the day, ok almost Midnight, I’ve realised it’s almost the end of the year in the bigger scheme of things and I’m wondering if it’s normal I’ve only seen one family member all year! Thank God for my mum, right? I haven’t seen my two sisters or my father. I have two cousins in Melbourne. One of which I wouldn’t mind seeing at more than funerals. Again, is this weird?

Weird family

Have I mentioned, my home is so hot in the warmer months that I have to put anything that melts into the fridge. Chocolate, Nutella and now, coconut oil! It’s completely liquidified. It’s time to move!
Does anybody believe in the concept of ‘Timing?” This week marks the passing of me applying for my 4th apartment this year. And knowing I can’t give notice to vacate until I find my new home, because, I can’t just live in any flat, unit, apartment, whatever. I don’t drive, so can’t live miles away from transport or my (well, let’s not mince words: Clifton Hill and my fav cafe and stomping ground) and I can’t do stairs or a shower over the bath and electric stovetop, etc. etc. Today I found out I got a place and now I can give notice! I can even start stalking my next fur-baby, by Christmas!

Melting chocolate
Excited………………

Wow! That didn’t take long…… Life can’t let you be happy for a single God damn minute can it? Believing the Universe will look after things all goes to hell.

Welcome to my Friday, where I have mentioned the Wheels fell off! My replacement carer for my Homecare/shopping my only Foodie Prep shift cancelled sick. The agency didn’t have a replacement, I outsourced myself to my newest agency and was very lucky to get someone for only 2 hours towards the end of the day.

So, I pulled up my big-girl pants and got on Hellonwheels got a jaunt to the other supermarket I live in-between two major supermarkets. Near (it will be my milk bar when I move. Won’t even need my scooter) got half of my shopping list and on the way home stopped at my old real estate. Gave notice! Thinking I should have waited a few more days as the new apartment won’t be available until the 18th and I need a few days to arrange carpets and cleaning to be done before my notice is up here. Family politics doing my head in. Again, seriously thinking to spend Christmas at home alone. With my new fur-baby. No, haven’t gone to meet any new cats, just know I’ll be getting one ASAP!
Finishing the week feeling flat and sad.

Going shopping

Saturday. No medicine! Must be dying not to fit in a coffee!

No Coffee

Sunday, skipped lunch to squeeze in my medicine. Then had lunch for dinner, happy Sunday. Half a comic was read this week. Comics didn’t rate high on the priority list this week. I’ll catch up in a few to be sure.

Sunday

Have my NDIS review this week! I will finally have the meeting with an actual Planner about my “Goals” pity I didn’t get this meeting a year ago. I don’t know how they imagine I can find my way to knowing what my Goals might be when money is so tight. I would be happy to start with if they paid for my shoes, my chiropractor and my Shrink. As well as continue to pay for my carers……..so I can start to breathe a little. Then, maybe I can consider some Goals.
Another big week to come.

Hot off the Press

Sweet Mary Mother of God! Monday and I’ve been such a zombie! Still managed 2,000 steps, but absolutely knackered! I have a feeling you will not want to Google that word, so I just mean I felt wiped out all day. I was actually hungry for lunch before what I deem lunchtime. Made it home in one-piece by tram and walking. Then had my medicine, and a serious hit of sugar…..

Knackered

Turned out, upon sending a shout out to my Kinesiologist friend it was a full moon last Friday. Now, my crazy-lady hormones are not in sync with the full moon and I don’t want to go out and howl at the moon (meow?) but I do notice my energy is completely zapped at the full moon. And the 1AM curfew kinda goes out the window, as does the anti-Pre-Dinner kip. Managed to avoid the kip but just barely. Oh, heard back from the real estate about the property I found online last night……AND it’s already gone! Really hating the whole house hunting thing.

Full moon

Tuesday, a spanner in the works for my normal program, it’s the day I actually enjoyed last week’s foodie good mental health day post. Saw my Chiro a day early to make room for a different appointment on Wednesday. Got to get to the Community Health Centre for a massage so that was a bonus. Ate a delicious chicken salad there I had picked up earlier. I forgot to do some food styling so no photo. Went for a big walk to the bank and back and was lucky to be given a lift home. Arrived home to discover I left my phone in Michael’s car. Before questions arise, yes! I’m that person who feels like they have had an arm cut off without their phone. You can have the left one, it doesn’t work!

Lost phone

My phone was likely on silent! So, if I rang it he wasn’t likely to hear it and I otherwise didn’t have numbers stored anywhere else. It’s the problem with technology. Messages via social media and was happy to hear within a few hours my phone was safely with Michael. Hope to be reunited tomorrow amongst the chaos.

Thursday, still feeling like a complete zombie. After a few hours of trying to get in touch with the lovely Young John, he took me to where my phone was to collect it. It was a very efficient trip there and home again. I felt a little jet-lagged even. No speed limits broken but I got home and my cup of tea was still warm enough to drink as I had to leave my breakfast, to not put Young John’s schedule out. Checked my pedometer and Michael did nothing to boost my digits. Sadly. Got to rest a little before I went out again for my first appointment for the day.

Zombies 1

Back to the dreaded dentist! I had my first 2 fillings to be mended done, as they only needed some of the existing filling drilled away, cleaned up, dried off and refilled I bare-knuckled it. The teeth were right next to each other making it easier and we agreed if I felt any pain I would raise my left hand. No! I reminded her it would be my right hand. (Again!) I worked out this time what it is that makes me squirm. (Irony) it’s all the packing they wedge down against my tongue that makes me feel nauseous and then, there’s that exciting ‘drowning’ sensation. The packing is obviously meant for her not me.

Dentist

Anyway, left there on foot and walked (got some steps in) to the tram. Trammed it to my neighbourhood and as I had not had lunch yet (it was 3.30pm) and I had 30 minutes to spare so I had a coffee and a French donut. Not photo worthy but got me through. Made it to acupuncture, fell asleep waiting. Got stabbed, caught up on messages and after about 20 minutes I couldn’t wait any longer to get to the bathroom, took out my 8 needles and got a taxi home. The weather had gotten rather untrustworthy by then.

Acupunture needles

The zombie feeling kicked back in and I vowed to get to bed early. Sat on the couch, felt a bit of a migraine coming on but by the time I caught up on some admin the night progressed as usual.
Stop Press! I made it to bed last night by 1. 30am……..At least it was close to my self-imposed curfew! Now you should appreciate why I didn’t make the time earlier which is what Ms Jillian (my Shrink) wanted me to achieve. She is clearly dreaming. As much I have told her.

Dreaming

Spent the day making calls, locked in the date for my NDIS review. Can’t believe it’s taken 6 months. Now to get new quotes for things I am trying to get funded, new letters of support. Fingers crossed, if I get everything I need I might not need to move.

Now I’m dreaming.

Managed not to have a kip. Ok, helped that I had a visit from the famous Aunty Christine.  Who told me she has never seen my hair look so messy. I have a million pins up there right now. Let’s see if I can get a before and after photo tomorrow?
Lucky, unlucky, you be the judge.

And look, here is another few……
(I just want you to know this was without any notice or preparation, from my blind-side.)

And then even posing, I still look hungover and stoned!

I consider this my default-look. (At times referred to as my ‘Resting Bitch Face)
So despite not drinking or smoking I guess it is what it is. A little insight into my look. Again, got to bed again last night by 1.30am. (I don’t like to think at all related to my default look!)

Friday, my adventure with my lovely young carer Jennifer, got to K-Mart, Aldi, Coles, the bakery, the butchers and Lincraft.

I’ve started getting Christmas presents………I can’t help myself. Home and (never say I don’t know how to motivate, Jennifer never needs motivating). Together we made a big batch of minestrone and I also marinated some chicken in Portuguese marinade and while Jennifer my carer departed around 6.30…….. I finally had my custard scroll and my coffee around 7.30pm, dinner even later. Bottled the minestrone (yield;8 Passatta bottles) around midnight. Then got to finishing my admin and emails. Now 2am Saturday morning I’m going off-grid or I’m going to try.

Minestrone

Over the weekend, nice weather in Melbourne, over the week, I’ve had some t-shirt days and some wool days. More t-shirt days coming. A very lazy weekend making me a very happy girl. Monday is going to be a crazy day, even going to see a potential new home. Keeping in mind, I move house, I have some financial flexibility and can get my new fur-baby. Here’s hoping.

Cheers,

Hot off the Press

It’s going to be a crazy week. I can always tell.
Monday, went to the DAC (Disability Advisory Committee) where I spruik myself as a community member/blogger/Girl about town!

DAC

Got to see Young John on the way there and back. He’s still sick but he’s sounding somewhat better.
Ended the day, with an hour-long call from me Ma (not me-maw) going over some admin to make having new carers in my home easier.

Tuesday plans went sideways immediately when my lovely massage was cancelled. So, I moved my GP appointment and the pastry order I made at my fav cafe was cancelled also. I had been hoping to post an extra post this week, to showcase what you should buy when going to a real patisserie. Of yummy goodness. It shall have to wait.

Cancelled appt

Have noticed a few neighbourhood cats have been coming up the front steps and loitering on the front lawn. I haven’t ever been able to go near them (one is old and blind, I’m told by a neighbour) but I never encouraged them when I had Jamima. But today I lost a pen! I know, doesn’t sound significant and it’s not expensive however, having had a cat I was in a habit of always putting something on top of whatever pen I was using. It’s a habit I’ve made sure not to break so when I have my next cat I don’t need to retrain myself of non-cat household habits. So, I’m wondering if Jamima can be blamed for my pen going missing? A friend told me I couldn’t blame her, but can’t I? Maybe these other cats and my pen being stolen from my bed is Jamima visiting and sending the clear message it’s time for a new fur-baby?

Visits

Wednesday, if you read my Foodie good mental health day post? You know, I was such a zombie I needed 2 lattes’. Medicine that is. Robert the owner even stopped by to chat briefly. He is gearing up for Spring Carnival and Christmas.

Wednesday

Saw my Chiro who has been banned from using her elbows in my glutes!  It has been known to have her hand slapped away. Today was one of those days. She exclaimed she wanted to help my lower back I pending disc bulge 2.0 issue. I suggested she help it and not try to cure it. Laughter all round. God help me! (In a non-religious way)

Chiro

Dropped in on Sinny where I buy cards and such and as he is closing down soon so I picked up some leather gloves for next winter. While negotiating, I queried how much they were? ($45) And how much they were now? ($32) I stated “Deal!” Then humorously after explaining I can only wear one of them (my left hand gets very cold but I don’t want to try to get a glove on it! So, I told him I only needed the right one? How much for just one? ($32) but he would throw in the other one, I told him I just needed to find someone who needed the left glove? I really will miss him. I once had my mosaic bordered mirrors for sale in his shop and many a gift I have purchased there.

Gloves

Had a great visit with Bella, she left her fur all over the legs of my pants.. Not complaining. Got to acupuncture late but was given the VIP room. So, made some calls. Guilty, not what you should do with 8 acupuncture needles in you.

Thursday! Got to have my massage that I didn’t get Tuesday. Making me a very happy girl. I was so organised I managed to get up and have breakfast before Caroline or even my carer arrived.  Caroline was very impressed. Quiet day at home and caught up on calls. Afternoon kip and even managed to get dressed without help. Try putting a bra on one-handed! Not fun. Bra

But dressed I was when my normal Friday carer arrived and we headed to ‘scray’ (short for Footscray) to an exhibition opening.

Thursday
My friend Larissa, who does much for advocacy in ABI and disability is a very talented artist. She does Handstands and does post ups. (She featured at the Arts Centre recently as mentioned in a previous Hot……..) and she does amazing Lino prints. Which I love.
Here are some photos.

Don’t mind my hair, it’s at its worst by Thursday late and I do look like I’ve been dragged through s hedge backwards……certainly how it feels.
Here are some photos of some of the other pieces that caught my eye.

Friday morning learnt a valuable lesson!
Remember that statement I would attempt to get to bed earlier? Achievable outcome? 1am! Yeah, turns out my standard 2am bedtime is more accurately achievable and I have even been coping. But, as I was out last night at the exhibition opening I got home around 9, ate dinner then did my usual catch-up-on admin/TV/emails, etc. and didn’t get to bed until 2.30! Disaster………..woke up like a zombie today!

Friday

Will binge some BBT (Big Bang Theory) to avoid a kip before going shopping. It is now (roughly) the end of Friday, officially Saturday. The dishwasher is now on a third time. It is only a single draw bench top dishwasher. Made some yummy things with my carer, have bagged and tagged for the freezer, to go to Sydney next week.

The weekend! Super lazy. Great weather for getting washing done. No Chinese laundry amazing. Still no single girl date night movie. Have still been binging and catching up on TV. Currently, watching season 2 of the Australian show Glitch and the other is called the Wrong Girl. Both thanks to my Toppy. (Topfield)

Wrong girl

Saturday. Night and I finally succeeded getting to bed by my self-imposed bedtime 1am, I mean I was still awake at 3am but still Winning!

Back during my club days, had I ever left a club that early my friends would have asked if I was ok? I know, still gotta write about my club days, otherwise referred to as my 20’s and the 90’s for everyone else. I will get there.

Clubbing

Some more comics moved around my home, not as many as last week but nothing to sneeze at.
Might get back into house hunting this week, if only it were that easy. It is only really when I stumble across a property that fits my requirements. Space versus value. Wish me luck.

Cheers,
H

Hot off the Press

Monday, rudely awoken at the crack of nothing! At 3.45am. There is no God! Who rings anybody’s doorbell at that hour? I imagine it wasn’t even mine but likely unit 2………did I mention they told me they are moving? They were given notice to vacate using the excuse that family was moving in. I doubt it but, it’s the excuse landlords can use to get rid of tenants. When they told me, my neighbours suggested others would move in I would hate instead. Rude! I don’t hate them I just intensely disagree with their use of the doorbell rather than a key to open their own door and their definition of the term ‘Hippy!) Anyway, saw my Shrink, so good start to the week despite feeling knackered!

Doorbell

Glad I took photos of the concrete bollards in the Bourke Street Mall as the LEGO has been discarded. Ah, I’m sure it will be replaced. Give us time.

Ran into a retired Nun getting off the tram and decided to attempt to convince her to vote Yes, on the upcoming Same sex marriage equality postal vote. She actually doesn’t mind if two men love each other or two women love each other, it was just the use of the word ‘marriage’. I attempted to give her other points to consider and even after telling her I was a “Bitter single straight barren spinster” (yes, I told her I wasn’t bitter) she gave a little laugh and I gave up. I just hope it gave her something to think about.

Same sex marrige

Tuesday! Ladies?  Because I don’t think I have many male followers………would you prefer a trip to the dentist or the gynaecologist? I confess I’ve never seen a gyno but get my regular Pap smear every two years as it is recommended and as I went to the dentist today I confess to say, I vote pap smear! I had my teeth cleaned today and I confess I squirmed the whole time, and wringing my hands. I absolutely hate it and I’ve had fillings without needles. I’ve had needles driven into my lower back near my spine with only a local anaesthetic.  But Pap smear! I confess I kept holding up my right pointer finger to indicate I was drowning! (They suggested my left hand) but I had to remind them my left arm didn’t work and I promised not to get in their way. So, I guess it took longer than normal for that reason. I agreed to an x-ray which I later regretted as now I have more appointments to mend 4 fillings!

Dentist

Standard Wednesday, with a drop-in visit with Bella. She is often hiding and today I worked out the perfect way to encourage her to emerge. I can’t believe it has taken me so long. The shop has many, many pet toys. (You know the ones that squeak?) I love those toys. I just go crazy with the squeaky toys and she comes running. Awww.

Squeaky toys

Thursday, having family generally ignore my needs and isolation from family or friends and continually under delivering on promises. Therefore, sabotaging my ability to have funding or use things I need. I had the severe case of the CBF’s!

I kept my head down for the day and was largely off-grid. The few people I did reach out to didn’t improve my outlook much. Afternoon nap and rather late lunch was just what Doctor Helen ordered. A late text to a friend Michael and I learnt it had been his birthday! So, I gave him a call. Phone calls with Michael can cover a Plethora of topics and go for hours. Tonight, was nearly an hour, a short one all things considered. Ate dinner after midnight! I’ll get back on track tomorrow. Michael reminded me I’m overdue a trip to the community centre I go to for my free Osteo/Mio appointments. It’s a great way to feel your own life is normal.

Happy birthday
Friday, a long weekend bought to us by the AFL Grand Final in Melbourne. I mentioned I’m not into sport? Yes, very un-Australian. It also makes fun for going out shopping. Plenty of woman with a ‘kill or be killed’ attitude and men who have the day off work and don’t know how to act in normal society. Mixed with school holidays and a handful of teenagers treating the shopping complex like a playground. Running around playing kiss-chase? Is that what that was about?

Kiss chase
All I can say, is my attitude to people who are likely to knock me over? I go down, you come down with me! (Can’t wait to see what Noelle comes up with for that comment!)
Challenge issued……… Challenge accepted

Threw together a double batch of my special muffins and my carer left with the first 4 out of the oven. Muffins for everyone over the weekend! Ate dinner late and still ploughing through emails around 1.30am. So much for off-grid Saturday. At least I got to have a quick visit with both Bella and Wilfred this week. Looking forward to not having a schedule for a few days.

Muffins

Saturday, grand final day in Melbourne. Best afternoon kip ever! Didn’t want to get up. Late dinner, later coffee then went to bed at 2am. Still awake at 4.30am. No judgement please, coffee keeping people awake is for amateurs……

Sunday morning. What!? It’s day lights savings? There is no God! It takes me all summer (and the rest of spring) to get used to it. As another week begins……I’ll leave you with some photos of my discoveries in my back yard. It’s a concrete jungle.

Lastly, read six comics this week. Note, failed to mention the pitiful number last week but more than made up for it this week. I’m currently reading Buffy season 9. But it did take a conscious effort to achieve that number.

This week I might attempt to get to bed before 1am, as I do like to have a realistic and achievable goal. I have started with the new service provider for my carers. My local council is no more so, here’s to a new week where every day I’ll face a brand-new carer, do my own in-house induction and within 20 minutes they will see me naked! Luckily, they get paid for that torture! I wish I had kept a tally over the years, there have been so many carers.

Showering
To another crazy week ahead!

Crazy week

Hot off the Press

I don’t even know why I bother. Please God, why must I deal with so very many incompetent people in my life? I mean, big shout out to my wonderful administrator Noelle for all her great work on Hellonwheels/Lifeonehanded and the snort-laughing meme’s. They truly make my day! Why can’t everyone I deal with be so competent?

Incompetent

Monday! The goal for today has been find a carer I can spend 2-3 hours in the kitchen with me and smash out several dishes so food I have paid good money on doesn’t go to waste. Is it that hard to do?

Monday

My goal is to make three things a veggie curry, a veggie bake with a béchamel sauce. (That’s a very simple white sauce, for those who don’t know.) and lastly a bread and butter pudding. It’s proving challenging to get anybody. I don’t need to handhold in the kitchen, or teach, or who listens if all I have to have them do is suggest they read the recipe. I actually can do all of these things, singlehanded! But not all at once and not without complete exhaustion and probably a migraine.
To be continued………………….

Tuesday! Another day to test how well service providers (who provide my carers) can manage to stress me out and prove incompetent? I’m often sent carers where language can be a barrier. My first carer was from Japan, but has been here 15 years. I think she’s going to be one of my regulars.
The lovely Caroline arrived and I had a massage, if there is one good-thing it’s a massage.

Tuesday

My first agency to get my NDIS funding after my council (provider of HACC services) outsource my request for assistance for food prep. You know when they tell you Fred is coming and when they arrive they introduce themselves as Barney? (don’t know where this Flintstones reference came from, so it’s not intentional) Barney is from Greece and has been here maybe 10 years or less, I forget. Cannot explain the frustration of talking someone through how to put the compost into the worm farm! I shouldn’t need to micromanage that task to get it done……… Although success! By the end of the 2.5-hour session, the veggie curry was complete, the veggie bake with the béchamel sauce, done and my bread and butter pudding, while slap-dash is marinating overnight in the fridge before I bake it tomorrow night.

It’s always a challenge when carers who aren’t familiar with me or my home and I have to give directions to where they will find things it’s often easier for me to get things myself. Then of course, in the effort of getting things achieved in a time limit I often miss out on the actual ‘doing’. This is why it’s standard I spend some serious time in the kitchen before setting up and an equally serious amount of time cleaning up afterwards. Today I only managed to sit and have lunch 11 minutes before Barney arrived, but even after 9pm, I’m yet to have a hot cup of tea today as every time I try it goes cold as I multitask.

If all goes well, some of each of the savoury dishes will be collected before midnight and I won’t need to make much of an effort in the kitchen for the next few evenings. Definitely a night for the bench top dishwasher to go on twice. Winning!

Wednesday, standard Punchy/shabby day. Complete with foodie good mental health day.

Wednesday

Even got to get out on Hellonwheels and on the way home dropped in to visit Matt who has been building 9 brand spanking new apartments (that I cannot live in or afford to rent, but let’s move on!) There are occasionally days I’m wondering how weird the world is and why I meet ‘certain’ people? So, there was a guy chatting to Matt with his arm in a cuff and collar (which he was wearing incorrectly) and before he could ask me I got to ask him. “What’s wrong with your arm?” I was told I “had no idea” and the F*Bomb was mentioned. Not at me but in general…….let’s move on. I confess to say; my eyes went rather large and I gave Matt a bit of an eye roll as I wondered if he had not noticed my cuff and collar? I had also needed to manage my position on my scooter to cater to having both of them standing on my right so I could see them, without them staring into the late afternoon sun. (Aren’t I thoughtful) Now, I did not know this other guy from a bar of soap and I asked who he was? (A name would have been fine don’t be ridiculous.) He told me he was the bald guy in the Underbelly series at the end who is killed. Like I was supposed to remember who that was?

Underbelly
FYI. In the 90’s and early 2000 the Melbourne Mafia was doing a pretty good job at killing each other off. All with the goal of running the drug trade and gambling and ‘what-not’ (I wasn’t there, all I can say) I don’t have those relatives or contacts however, I know people who did and do however not with any illegal intent. (Yes! Very diplomatic and safe!) Nailed it!

So this guy….. let’s call him that man who has bullet shrapnel in his back and just about everywhere, by the sound of it and it impacts his spine and the doctors can’t even do an MRI. You don’t generally let Doctors do exploratory surgery around your spine without an MRI, so I’m perfectly fine with my AVM………Thanks for playing.

I meet some weird people, right?

Arrived home decided to use my reach-grabby-thingy to collect the rubbish that was mulched by the lawnmower 2 weeks ago. Went to use my front hose, that has not been used since last summer, and some BASTARD (presumably the landlord) cut it! I mean, seriously CUT my garden hose! My landlords have fruit trees in the front yard and waits until I’d been here several years before telling me I was not allowed to use the tap. They informed me it’s on a separate meter. I attempted to bucket out water for a few weeks and it caused a flare-up of my old and repaired disc-bulge. I don’t water my outdoor plants over winter. It rains, right?

Ggggrrrrrrrr, Matt dropped down on his way home and fixed the hose. I had a spare fitting and now I have to move the hose back to my scooter shed and only get it out when I use it.
I baked the pudding……

Bread and Butter pudding

Finally caught up on my admin and it’s after midnight. Next!

Thursday

Thursday, it has come to my attention I might be making my existence sound way more exciting and adventurist than it actually is? I might dispel that now…… Lazy day at home today, washing on the line, visit from Bolton Clark (formerly known as RDN) They needed to check their key safe at my front door. Tammy the lovely nurse left me with a joke she had been told by a 95-year-old woman. I might write it up as a seperate post and spent some time updating the software on all my “I’s” (My iPhone, iPad and Laptop) FYI, I’m not rich I just used my one-off funding wisely about 3 years ago and going forward the NDIS will not be funding computers in the future. They believe every Australian household has a computer. I shouldn’t need to mention I wouldn’t have any of these “I” if I hadn’t been given that funding. Next!

Friday! There was a miracle because I made it to bed ‘early’ (both the definition of early and miracle are still in question) as it was 1am, when I crawled into bed, slept until 8am, (another miracle!) Don’t make me repeat myself……… Friday, such a long day, but fun times with my young carer while out shopping.

Friday

Rife social chat with Pat the Butcher, Aiden the young veggie produce guy (sounds cheesy but seriously) and the lovely checkout chick. (It’s weird when I watch the same TV shows as people half my age……like Glow) I got to explain Alison Brahe won the Dolly model of the year competition in the 80’s when I was a teenager before she married a Daddo! (Cameron Daddo) which is like Australian Royalty.

Smashed out another veggie bake tonight. Tuesday’s went so well, but as I gave away more than I ate and I didn’t keep any for leftovers, I did heaps of prep work while my carer was doing her chores, cleaning and vacuuming. Then I spent more time in the kitchen after she left. Finally got to sit at 8pm for my coffee and custard scroll. My Friday symbol of the week is finally over! Feeling like a zombie!

Not sure I’ll even make it to 1am tonight. Otherwise, a beautiful spring day in Melbourne reaching 25………otherwise, a great quiet weekend. Lots of laundry and a rude awakening from I presume my nosy landlady at 8am Sunday morning. I presume that’s when one weeds their tenants front garden? Gggggrrrrrrr….. another week dawns! Let’s go!
Let’s see if I head from the NDIA gets back to me about my need for medically approved extra-depth shoes? My chiropractor? Or how about my shrink? No, probably not! I’m not holding my breath obviously.

Here’s some pictures of things I’ve encountered or made in the last week, see if you can pick which is which?

Hot off the Press

And another week begins.
Monday morning and my friend Phillip was gone before 5am! Not envying him at all. My day started at 9am, while I walked to the tram and again racked up 1,000 steps to get to the tram I paid for it.
Who knows what you get when you over work muscles that have been dormant and unused for the weekend? Yes, that’s correct my thigh muscles were on fire! Itchy!

Monday

While I didn’t get out until about midday I got to Osteo and was tortured (my carpel tunnel) and I was given a lift home by 6pm making it feel like I’d been out all day!

Tuesday, cold and wet so as my carer arrived on time I committed to going to my one appointment. Caught a taxi and had a great massage with the milo/Remedial student from RMIT. She even suggested I might have a little something called Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Like I need to have another thing on my list, but if it’s an answer to anything I’m adding it to my list to discuss with my GP. Did just over 2,000 steps today and was struggling to stay awake past 8.30pm. But never fear, crawled into bed at 1.30am Wednesday morning. Don’t tell Ms Jillian.

Tuesday

Wednesday, did not want to get up! (No idea why…….shaddup!) more cold and wet today but it wasn’t raining when I had to get out so smashed out 1,000 steps just to get to the tram. Encountered an old Greek lady on the tram. Was out-Nona’ed by the Greek Nona. FYI: if you are unsure, a Nona is an Italian grandmother however I don’t know what the name for a Greek grandmother is)
Standard Wednesday foodie post……Meh! Paid some bills.

Wednesday

Standard Punchy/shabby day and as predicted my Chiro did tell me I looked tired. Had a laugh about the Greek Nona. The woman had rearranged the colour of my jacket and had been touching my purse inside the side of my bag. (She was attempting to fold it over to have it be safer and less at risk of theft) ironic she didn’t have any appreciation of my body-space and that she was in it. My Chiro has Greek ancestry her parents having migrated from there back in the 40’s or 50’s. Same era as my father from Italy. Managed 3,000 steps today, but promise to make up for that excessiveness tomorrow when I don’t leave the house.

Greek YiaYia

The highlights of Thursday were the other lovely Fijian carer I’ve had a few times now in recent months. An afternoon kip that was ruined by the doorbell at 4.30pm that when I went to see who was there, there was no one! Managed to pull the rest of the day together and after a chat on messenger with my Texan friend got into the kitchen to smash out dinner. Roasted veggies, including beetroot and some frozen peas, with a Chicken Kiev.

Thursday

Friday morning another rude awakening at 3.33AM, by the doorbell. I had only gone to sleep at 2am making me one very grumpy girl. Who the bloody hell does that? I didn’t get up so I don’t know if it was my doorbell or Unit 2 (we share a roof cavity as my Wog landlords built cheap and not to legal safety requirements) so I often hear their doorbell.

Friday

Friday resumed after only a few more hours sleep around 9am and after my afternoon carer, I smashed out a few more hours in the kitchen. A chicken soup bottled, yummy dinner and a serious effort with the bench top dishwasher so my Saturday carer doesn’t go out on stress leave from the remaining dishes needing her attention and another late night on the couch catching up on admin and emails before another lazy off-grid Saturday!

Ah, received some interesting mail today. Really want to chant “Yes! Yes! Yes!” But if you are not in OZ you do not know of the political debate about how to best waste, oops, sorry. Spend tax payer’s money to decide if same-sex marriage should be made legal here?

Same sex Marriage
Now, I’m a single bitter barren spinster (ok, not bitter) and I’m voting Yes! I want my gay friends to be able to marry if they want. This postal vote won’t even be legal! Even I’m surprised how backward we are on this topic!

Perfectly lazy weekend. Even did a little mindfulness colouring.

IMG_3244

Keep in mind I’ve only got half the eyesight in each eye so do not enlarge!

Previous weeks efforts…….

IMG_3245

Single girl date night passed again binging TV………..I’ll mention only note-worthy shows. Some help me pass the time. You will always be able to tell the difference. Three more comics this week.
Had a big flashback this week of accessible bandaids…. I know. Weird Segway, however I’ve badly injured a fingernail on my left hand and as I can’t feel it I don’t know how much damage I’ve done. So, I’ve been sporting a bandaid as protection. Even my carers are struggling to open the packaging.

Band aid 1
Remember those days of Johnson and Johnson bandaids with the little red string across the top and down the side? Now bandaids are childproof and adultproof! I just want to perform a little first aid………..
And spring has finally sprung in my front Yard! this is the view from my bedroom window.

IMG_3249

Lastly, Sunday night into the kitchen to smash out a pasta bake for someone newly out of hospital after her second disc bulge surgery. All while singlehandedly making my own dinner. A pretty decent pork and diet mince hamburger patty with lettuce, beetroot and mayo on a wholemeal bun.
Meanwhile there are people in Florida without power or a roof over their heads. Sending good thought to you all. Two world leaders playing a simple game of mine is bigger than yours and they need to stop. It’s not a game! Please stop!
To a peaceful week and less stress on the Homefront.
Cheers,
H

Great week

Hot off the Press 11/09/17

The week started cold and wet as I predicted being the start of Spring in Melbourne.

Once again, with Young John still away in Greece and the NDIS not catering to transport needs I cancelled my one appointment of Osteo and had a long weekend.

So, no big numbers on the pedometer to brag about, big fat nothing. Have been perfecting the panini press sandwiches of late. Generally, have one a week and while I’ve been attempting to be healthy and not put on too much butter a few weeks ago I was a bit more liberal when applying the yellow stuff. Winner! Winner! Chicken Dinner! Golden brown worked a treat. Actual ingredients I’ve been going with are ham or salami, a few cherry tomatoes, Tuscan mix and/or marinated mushrooms and some sliced cheese. And I favour a nice light rye bread.

Panini

Monday evening, I made it to the kitchen and in true Helen form I smashed out all my chores in a short period of time single-handed. Made the mash potato and steamed veggies to go with my dinner, put together the vegetarian lasagne for a friend and her two sons. Against my better judgement that it doesn’t have meat in it but what can I do? Unpacked and repacked my bench top dishwasher at the same time.

Vege Lasagna

Tuesday, another cold/wet day and I had to prompt my agency that my carer had not arrived.

Cold and wet

I love that my main agency doesn’t have the staff so outsourced to another agency. The message came back that the carer was running behind with another client but when the carer was here she confessed she had slept in. Deep breathe, bah-hum-bug!

My friend arrived in time to collect me and we went to see a film.

We saw Girls trip, which was hilarious. It was early afternoon and surprisingly only about 10 people in the cinema. At one point my friend wiped her eyes, as if wiping away tears. I felt a tear at the corner of my eye and my thighs were tingling. (from laughter and a sentimental moment)

Girl trip

No time for breakfast, stated I would fill up on popcorn! Stop it! Don’t wanna hear how bad corn is for me. My friend already ruined that plan for me so I ate one of those oat/nut/yoghurt bars you keep in your desk draw for those snack-times. A younger woman came in and parked herself with two huge buckets. One with popcorn, the other was blue…….I looked in her direction and my friend asked if I wanted her to go give her the lecture about corn. I snorted my response because that had been exactly what I had been thinking. I added that if she had a bucket of fairy floss she was to steal it for me and I would take the lecture for that later.

And because advocacy for people with disabilities is never done, I took the time to speak to the manager after the film as both before and after the film I visited the disabled facilities and had found no toilet paper. Ok, there was 4 squares the first time, ur it’s as good as NONE!

I explained to the manager I struggled to get into a normal toilet with my walking stick, my jacket over my arm, and my bag, because I just had to go! But people in wheelchairs don’t have that luxury.

Let’s see if it improves for the next time I’m there. Time will tell.

Finding the timing of last Fridays post rather interesting timing.

Wednesday. Standard Punchy/stubby day. Hope you read my Wednesday foodie good mental health day post? Then you know it was cold. I wore full winter layers and ended up doing 3000 steps on my left foot I could barely feel to start with. Lots of standard admin and calls to keep the balls in the air and life ticking over. And as you can see a huge shoe rubbing visit with Bella/Killer. Ok, by the time I got my phone out to snap a photo she was just happily sitting there ignoring me. I didn’t want to leave.

Bel 1

Thursday, woke super early with pain in my right hand from the carpel tunnel. Not happy at all! Finally got back to sleep and had one of my nice carers arrive in time for me to get ready for my massage at home. I’ve not been getting to the Osteopathic or Mio/Remedial appointments so had rather a relaxing day at home.Lounge already resembling a Chinese laundry.

Chinese laundry

Have been dealing with alternative rostering issues as my regular Friday girl is taking the day off for football finals. Gggggggrrrrrr…..it’s fine as she is not a Collingwood supporter. I was given the name of her replacement and I asked to confirm that she had/has a car and can drive. Also has insurance, because some agencies don’t stipulate that their carers need all of these things in order to do the job. They rang back later in the day with a completely different name. God help me!

Friday, I knew the world had been off its axis last Friday. (The day I actually had lunch at an appropriate lunch-ish time) Today’s second carer arrived at midday, so I forewent breakfast and went straight onto lunch. Four hours with my carer to do Homecare (cleaning)shopping and some food prep, an hour or so of me sorting out my ‘chores’ and two coffees later all is right in the world for a mostly “Off-grid” weekend!

And here’s introducing Wilbur!

Wilbur

Was lucky to get to squeeze in a visit to the local newsagents also. Perfect end to the week, despite a crazy cat lady practicing her German to poor Wilbur. (She is learning and has no one else to practice with) no idea what she was trying to say but Wilbur jumped down from his perch to escape. The week ended with a comfy warm bed ready for spring! Introducing my Spring doona cover. I don’t know, it just makes me happy and the simple things in life make life worth living. (OK, only a week late, better late than never, in terms of this time of year in bed-linens)

Spring Doona

Oh, I don’t know about anybody else but I already have my 2018 diary! I refuse to start carrying it around until at least December but again proof that I’ve a weird form of retirement! Retirement, my bottom!

My weekend the standard less the better filled only with food, TV binging and sleep exactly how I need it. Again, no film for single girl date night but plenty of TV shows to catch up on.

Sunday evening my friend Phillip arrived in time to catch up for a few hours. He lives 3.5 hours from Melbourne in the country and has to fly to Sydney for the day tomorrow. I rarely have friends come to visit so it’s ironic that one that lives so far away makes the effort to visit for a catch up even if only for a few hours. He will be gone by the crack of nothing in the morning. It’s so good having a spare room for people to stay over when in town.

Visitor

Only three comics were read this last week. That number dropped slightly on previous weeks. I think after sorting my collection a few weeks ago made me consider I might catch up by Christmas……..2020! So, I could relax on attempting to hurry and get through them. Don’t want to run out now do I?

An update from Young John and his wife Young Betty sees them not returning from Greece until at least the 23rd. So, another week dawns and I need to get to appointments this week, so I suspect I might also get a little damp. Next!

Greece

Cheers,

H

Hot off the Press 0409

This week! Less chaos! Let’s go for that!

Monday, happy I got shrunk! (My fond term for seeing my psychologist!) this good humour doesn’t just come naturally you know……….

A few months back, Melbourne suffered the same fate as many cities around the world.
For security purposes big concrete bollards were put in strategic locations for our protection.
Initially, there was outrage. But in true Melbourne style. We made Art! Thankfully, the Yarn-bombing didn’t last. I do not get it…….

The powers that be were attempting to discourage rope from being creative because the bollards were only hired and would need to go back.

Back where, I ask?

So, this is Melbourne’s answer to ugly things placed in our city for our safety. Yes, it’s Lego! Yes, a tourist photobombed my photo opportunity and yes, sometimes we seem to have way too much time on our hands. But c’mon, this is Melbourne. We love our coffee, our art and our freedom to live and be safe.

IMG_3210

Finally got to get to the Arts Centre in the city to see my friends instillation of Handstands…….
Witches Hat

This is what Melbournians refer to as the Witches Hat! Originally it was meant to be much taller. But it’s an Icon all the same.
Handstand

Stop on the way home to post my dad his Father’s Day gift. Found a woman’s car keys and reunited her with them before she got too far. I love that when I held out my hand with her keys, all she could do was mouth out the words “thank you!” She wouldn’t have gotten far but no one likes that moment of panicking. All is right in the world.

Migraine meant an afternoon kip. I always prefer a kip than drugs to fix my migraine……..and my Wednesday trip to my Chiro.

Tuesday. No appointments out of the house. Two-hour meeting with my Case Manager then some serious never-ending admin.

Finally got to the GOT finale………
I don’t do Plot spoilers but when I give a little commentary they will not mean anything to people unfamiliar with the show but to those who watch it they will have a little smile and know exactly what I’m hinting at. Then if you do decide to watch it, you might be tempted to further understand what I’m going on about……

Game of thrones 1

“That Pie chic could go into hospitality with a difference”. (because I can never remember that character’s name). Followed by “Wolfe!” And then there was 2!

That’s it! A friend mentioned the naked chests, bare bottoms, sex and the occasional incest to which I ask “Define occasional?” And finally, Snow turned to Sand! And sadly, that is it for another season……..

Game of thrones

Have I mentioned I am not a patient woman?

Wednesday, you hopefully read my Wednesday foodie mental health day post? So, the food part is covered. Standard Chiro, and acupuncture then a visit with Bella. Very happy. Dropped into see Wilbur at the newsagents but he doesn’t go to work on Wednesdays! What the? Wilbur is a cat that is in residence at a newsagent in my suburb. He sleeps on a cushion on the counter and was hand raised from only 2 weeks old so they took him to work to feed him throughout the day. He languishes on the counter top or the chair behind the counter. Happily, Monday the shop keeper lifted Wilbur up onto the counter for me to give him a pat. He seems very content for complete strangers to try to be friends. So happy!

Wilbur

Thursday, what a roller coaster. While sitting on the couch in the lounge with the backdoor open, I heard a questioning meow from the kitchen. (Weird right since I don’t have a cat right now!) I gave a friendly hello and decided against getting up to investigate. It’s not the first time a cat has come all the way into my home uninvited since Jamima went to God in March. I later ventured to the kitchen to discover said cat had left me a nasty smell. (Damn it!)

Thursday
Had a nice visit from Aunty Christine for a little snack and coffee. My lunch, her afternoon tea. It’s nice to catch up on the girls I used to have here. Unfortunately, I learnt I had offended one of the girls and was heartbroken to learn we were no longer friends. Spent the rest of the day feeling sick and light-hearted. It seems I can have a case of foot and mouth disease and am not given the benefit of the doubt enough to even discuss it with me. Just sad.

Foot and mouth

Friday’s are becoming very strange days. I’m getting into a habit of eating lunch at a reasonably lunch-ish time on account of my Carer not arriving for my second shift until 2pm! Making me pose the question, Is the world off its axis? Seem to be back enjoying my time with a Carer on the Friday, despite being 20 years younger than me(constant moments of were you even born back then moments?) but a very similar humour and quick wit!

Coffee

Stocked up on medicine(coffee) and even dropped my spring doona cover to the dry cleaners to get pressed.

Happy Spring by the way!

Spring

First of September, my peach tree is still yet to blossom but guaranteed to share a photo ASAP. Was close to the newsagents where Wilbur languishes his day away on the counter so got a drop-in visit. I’m really appreciating the neighbourhood cats. Not the black and white number that thinks he can spray my territory. Maybe it will get me through until I can relocate and get my next fur-baby.

Took the time to call my Pa as my home town made the news (for all the wrong reasons) the nursing home down the road from my father has had 7 fatalities from the Flu. Awful, isn’t it! I understand it’s common practice for the residents in nursing homes to be quarantined in their rooms when a flu epidemic hits. Meal times reduced to meals served with plastic cutlery. Very ordinary. FYI; Jack, my grandfather built that nursing home in my home town.

Wangaratta

My father was rather unsympathetic to my plight of not finding anything suitable or affordable to call my new home. I don’t bother unpacking everything because he just doesn’t get the big picture. He even suggested I move somewhere for a year until I can find something else that’s better.  Because I’m really not wanting to move twice. All the relocating drama! Changing all my details, unpacking, repacking, changing addresses, changing my home phone number. Hell no!

Moving house
The day ended with a meal in my slow cooker, dinner in the oven and a quiet weekend of binging TV ahead. If all goes to plan.

Saturday and Sunday very lazy as I always hope. Real Melbourne spring weather has set in. Rain, wind and Chinese laundry in my lounge room and my desire to not leave the house.

Call me crazy, but I think I’m having another long weekend. Five Joss Whedon comics moved around my home. I’m currently reading season 9 of Buffy! (as in the Vampire Slayer) yeah, and people thought it ended before that, but no it continued in comic form. Happy days for all!
Now, for another crazy week in the life of Hellonwheels.

Cheers,
H

Crazy week ahead

Hot off the Press 2808

Really needing this week to be far less busy and chaotic. Noelle informed me last week’s Press Release was akin to a short story. So, let’s put out for much less chaos.

Monday dawned cold and wet so decided I’m too poor to pay for taxis to my only appointment so I reconsidered and cancelled. Had an extra day to my weekend and did some advocacy for a friend who has had the NDIS fail him so badly he has rejected the help completely. He also has no case manager and no carers. He obviously needs an advocate and a new planner from the NDIS so I’ll work on advocating for him to get those next.

Cold weather

Ironically, if I do a little advocacy for others I’m heard and they get results however when I do it for myself there is a consensus that I don’t need to be taken seriously because I just have a brain injury! Apparently, I don’t matter.

God forbid! A client is smart enough to know when I’m being given sub-standard service and wise enough to make you feel some guilt about it. One of us is being paid for living like this and it’s not me!

So, back to less chaos.

Made it to 4.30pm and decided I really did deserve a kip……….woke at 6.30, barely in time to fit in a coffee. Back to emails, which are never ending……and felt the need to give a smack down to someone in my ABI community.

Brain injury

The biggest problem with brain injury is often that as it is something we have in common we are presumed to be herded together to socialise and advocate. Not a single ABI is like another. Everyone has different funding, supports, support needs and empathy and compassion for anyone and everyone else. Housing situation, family, etc etc.

I have really stepped back from all ABI groups and last week’s art project was a rarity on my behalf. So, after attempting to explain to another in this community I eventually repeated and delivered a sharp “Go forth and multiply!” Although not as eloquently as that…….next!

FYI; False alarm in the finale of GOT. I am a week early meaning I now must wait in anticipation like everyone else. I don’t know if you are aware, however I don’t have patience for all things.

GOT

Tuesday! myo/Remedial! So, needed that. The student worked on my back and both my arms, and when working on my left arm was surprised when my left hand flared open.

Wednesday! Remember my suggestion for needing a less dramatic week? Yeah, well……..
T, a good friend scooped me up in time to get to see what I hope will be my new home. T, helped do the application forms and after a short trip to the police station to sign a statutory declaration, a drive to the city to drop the forms straight to the real estate agent. I even did a flight of stairs! Up and down.

Appartment hunting

After my initial feedback that they had an accessibility issue, I left her by telling her if I got down the stairs my application should go to the top of the pile, if I fell? I should get the apartment! (She got my humour) As I got in the car I could feel muscles in both my legs I don’t recall ever having.
After being delivered to my fav lunch haunt and no time to smash out my foodie post, apologies. Hope you appreciated the extra well thought out /structured post? Inhaled lunch, something different ironically. Delicious pancetta quiche with side salad. And the standard medicine………..
And then off to Chiropractor!

GOT 1

Quick debrief with the younger Associate Chiro on GOT! I peaked too early and binged the first six episodes of the season a whole week before the season finale, meaning I have had to wait on tender-hooks like all the other plebs! My debrief with him was had with me, wide eyed, raised eyebrows and very short statements. He smiled and agreed and then my Chiro broke it up with “C’mon! Quick back to work!” We parted ways me responding “Yes, Mum!” Humorously.

Chiropractors

Already had a migraine from the chaotic day. Tram, acupuncture. (Took out my own needles for efficiency) and off to the beauticians for a quick underarm wax! Taxi home and chores, chores and more chores. Turned out to be a great day for ducks! (it is standard end of winter/start of spring rainy season)

Thursday, now this is the ticket! Very quiet day at home. So happy, with sore legs from doing those stairs Wednesday, but still happy days!

Thursday

Friday, before lunch, had sheets on the line already! In Winter (well, practically spring in Melbourne!) Then received the hideous news, I didn’t get the apartment I applied for. Apparently, the winning applicant could take possession on Monday. While I’m yet to give notice as I can’t afford to be homeless and cannot do transitional housing. I would have scrambled to get funding to pay rent on the new place while I gave notice here. This is the 3rd place in as many months I’ve applied for that I didn’t get. My new fur-child again not here. Feeling like a loser! Had my young carer who does my shopping, homecare and food prep and had plenty of laughs to cheer me.

Friday

Huge laundry weekend and at least one decent day to get through it all. Happy to be off grid as of right now, being midnight! And looking forward to getting shrunk Monday!

Off-grid Saturday as quiet as it should be, single girl date night again spent consuming the build-up of shows on my Toppy. Princess Diana has been very well covered in recent weeks. Some shed a few tears, obviously, other distractions. No complaints at all. Just going to be a challenge to snap back into full Adult mode for Monday! It looks like I’ll be doing it with a twinge of a migraine. Super!

off the grid
Only managed to read three comics last week, believe there is another Joss Whedon comic to add to my shopping list. That being Dollhouse. I’m sure it can wait until I’m a little more caught up. I imagine comics are a more affordable medium than producing TV series that may or may not be green-lit for future seasons.

The finale of season 7 of GOT (Game of Thrones) airs tonight. I will watch it later Monday! Woe is me! I know my followers likely don’t understand the appeal of GOT so I promise one day I will attempt to explain. But not now.

GOT game over

To another stress-free week.
Cheers,
H

Hot off the Press

This week comes with an explanation, I guess. I write this post throughout the week and save it in my drafts folder in my email so I cannot miss stuff. Each day seems to bring lots of little details that are important and shouldn’t be neglected! So, enjoy.

Monday, had intended to go to the city and see a friend’s art instillation of handstands in the Arts Centre. A woman with a brain injury who is an artist and she does screen printing and a series of stickers of her doing handstands. She does her handstands to relieve stress and pain from her injuries. Having her work on display in the Arts Centre in Melbourne is an achievement in itself.
I have been trying to go see it for a month or more now and I don’t want to miss it. I try to get to all her exhibitions………..but I prefer company.

Art Centre

I had put out for a carer to accompany me so I could also pick up some things in the city and have my carer carry them. My disc bulge I had surgery to in 2011 has been giving me some warning that I should avoid lifting heavy things, or light things for that matter.

One of my agencies was more concerned I would injure my carer by carrying something heavy. I don’t know what she thought I had been intending to buy. I wasn’t planning on buying bricks or anything……… They couldn’t find a carer, so I changed my mind and had a lazy day off. So much for the NDIS being Life Changing!

Tuesday! Went to the city and participated in an art project. Creating something for a projection to happen down in Warrnambool. I won’t be going but Hellonwheels will make an appearance. Yes, yes. I’ll share footage when that happens!

Warrnambool

If I were to go, watching bright flickering lights while at night would be the kind of migraine inducing thing that would not just stay at the normal level of pain I can just deal with. I don’t want to be that girl who comes home from an adventure via a hospital.

Did some walking and collected 2 of the 3 things I had needed the pack-mule for. I had to collect my 3-monthly supply of comics. Thankfully only 8 making me think I might catch up soon? What will I read then? The comics were the lightest item I was carrying.

Pack mule

Tram home and then a lengthy walk. I arrived to visit the builders down the street and called quits. Matt gave my bag a lift home and I continued much lighter still trying to get some steps on the pedometer on my phone, managed 3,500+. Not bad, right? Except, I’ve a nasty callus on the side of my left foot. I suspect caused by not having the right shoes for this AFO and being fitted by a specialist in medically approved shoes. Have I mentioned I mostly can’t feel my left foot until I hurts?
Yeah, and I wear thick socks around the house as I scuff slippers. And it hurt to walk on any surface except carpet!

Yeah, and I repeat. Not Life Changing NDIS!

Really hoping I can get a carer to get me to my Botox specialist appointment on Friday! The Botox, the hinged AFO and shoes is all related. I’m hoping my mum doesn’t need to drive a 7-hour round trip just to take me!

Botox

By the end of this post you will know the answer to that! Finally, Tuesday. Like that isn’t enough, tore a fingernail into flesh, on my left hand. You might not recall, I can’t feel my left fingers until they hurt also? I can’t cut my own nails and I’m not allowed to have my carers do it for me. I definitely can’t afford to pay someone. Yet, I can’t not! It’s never ending!

Another Wednesday arrives and while very windy I was able to scooter and leave hellonwheels on the High Street near my usual final appointment of the day. I definitely couldn’t have made much of a dent on the pedometer. Left foot is rather painful right now. Maybe I’ll finally seem like someone should fund my new shoes!

It’s ridiculous that because it seems I’m doing everything for myself and doing OK so it seems that it’s considered sustainable and therefore don’t need help. So many things hurt tonight.
Possibly not helped by the lack of Osteo, Mio/Remedial of acupuncture the last few weeks.
Have really made excuses to not go out as much because Young John is away and I rely on him so much to get me places. (he has sent me pictures of plates of figs and such, so he’s obviously suffered greatly)

And the heavy lifting I’ve found myself doing today. I rearranged some unread comics this evening and discovered I’ve been reading them out of order. Who knew there was an order? Going to have to purchase a second storage box next time I’m at the comic shop. Can’t believe I’ve become that nerdy girl who sorts her comics. Not a terrible awful thing just don’t know how this came about.

Organise

Midnight Wednesday night. OK, officially Thursday morning got the message loud and clear. No! More! Technology! It was all not working for me in one way or another.
I quit!

Thursday, blessed Thursday. No appointments today! Luckily, it allowed me another afternoon Kip! I seem to get my best sleep in the afternoon and then after I’m up, I feel I’m good to go for another good 20 minutes…..(just kidding) still not getting through the constant build-up on my couch that’s eternal.

Mum arrived nice and early around 9.30pm, for a fun-filled 24-36 hours.

Friday! Completely smashed it! Had my Botox follow-up with the specialist. Was last injected St Valentine’s Day, best St V’s gift ever, despite it being in my calf muscle. They think I’m ready for the catwalk. (Kidding)

Then, as we had time before my next appointment we had a hit and run visit to the Swedish warehouse. Ironic that that particular post went live on the same day!

Stocked up on some tea light candles. And rescued a few plants, as I do every time. Hot footed it to my orthotist about the nice callus that has been giving me grief. Steven informed me I have been his first client to get my AFO funded and paid for by the NDIS! (The portal that you must navigate is monumentally difficult to understand what it requires of you or if the funds have been allocated and approved: Sounds awfully like they didn’t do a very good job and don’t want to spend the money!)
Hint: Steven rang at 10pm and must have gotten a staff member who couldn’t wait to finish for the night, so told him exactly what he needed to do so he could get paid and the guy could go home. Apparently, the call centre is open until 10pm.

Steven stretched out the side of the AFO so no more callus.

Drove back home from Richmond (not me, mum) and arrived in time to inhale lunch as my carer arrived to do my homecare and take me shopping. Ben managed to get the missing filter for my coffee percolator. Mum and her coffee needs are now sorted to her standards for the future. She left within 24 hours of her arriving in her little racing car. My mum makes an amazingly simple meal when she is here and I got to enjoy it late. Chilli’s and chips with a fried piece of white fish and thyme with a fried egg.
Pedometer tells me the day totalled 4,800+. Imagine what I could do every day if I had NDIA funded medically approved extra depth shoes that cost more than a week’s rent?

Now for the never-ending battle of clearing my couch and being off-grid for Saturday at least! Starting now at 11.59pm!

Saturday dawned with the realisation that GOT season 7 was finishing on Sunday night and it meant I had to binge the whole of the first 6 episodes before Sunday night.

Game of Thrones

So single girl date night again meant TV and not a film and still unable to completely be off-grid.
Sunday, looking at my couch and it’s looking much better. No! You can’t see a picture.
Also, 5 comics were read this week. So happy days here!

Also considering to add another tally to mention each week. How many people ask me in the average week: What have you done to your arm? Seriously, if I had a dollar!

If I had a dollar

It’s, already Monday morning, try early and still not interested in going to bed.
Already considering the many things I have to do tomorrow. Might just smash out a few emails now to make a start…….
1.30am……..
Have a great week!
Cheers,
H
