Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

A few weeks ago my Girl Friday and I made a batch of rum balls. A great Aussie classic from the CWA-Lady era. (Country Women’s Association) My food prep carer is much younger, often being mistaken as my daughter. I taught her the only way to measure the rum for the recipe. Follow the recipe, then Oops! My hand slipped and if you recall I’m not really a drinker. I’ve since given away more rum balls than I’ve actually eaten and I’ve got a 500mL bottle now to use, so more rum balls to make.

Here’s a nice recipe to try…

https://www.womensweeklyfood.com.au/recipes/classic-rum-balls-1632

My recommendation is keep them small, about 2 bites each, best with coffee.

Also, an apology, I’ve had 400 emails I’ve just found in an inbox I didn’t know I had. I normally visit the blog of every new follower or at least any new Like I see and hit them with a Like or comment to let you know I’ve seen you. So, apologies, I’m catching up.

Was at my favourite cafe in Clifton Hill yesterday as I was in the hood seeing my GP.I had the bolognaise arancini with a side salad. Latte (My medicine!) with an escargot and more medicine!

I’m busy at a meeting today and have my lovely Girl-Friday doing some admin for me while I’m at it. Hump day is not close enough for me to the weekend. Seriously, are we there yet? Friday is going to be painful.

Cheers,

H

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Oh my God, is this week over yet!? I cancelled my osteo appointment Monday. It was cold and I needed a long weekend.

Yesterday, I had my follow-up with the sleep clinic. Not a sleep over just an update with the specialist. I checked in and went back out to get a coffee. Thought today I might give you a recap in photo form of my appointment yesterday? I don’t consider myself particular photogenic as I look in the mirror these days and think it is what it is. So, your welcome!

Me before coffee…

After medicine!

And before I get to today’s offering. You may recall, the lovely Caroline my masseuse has been in Italy. She’s been doing a little gardening while her husband has been doing some maintenance. I think it’s safe to say neither know how to do Holiday.

They are in Casole d’Elsa 11K from SAN Giminiano. South of Florence, north of Siena. And I’m quoting her directly, it is too crowded to go there this time of year. She took these photos just for me yesterday.

And finally, today’s offering is a homemade sausage roll with a burning chilli chutney with side salad and medicine.

I’m in Thornbury today at Cafe Crunch as I was running out of time. So, I’m close to acupuncture.

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Had a bit of an adventure prompting a “Facebook post along the lines of my body protests to the pain, Bitch is that a bra? Go back to bed!” It was a Saturday after all, I went to the west! To see my friends

piece in an exhibition. Here is Larissa McFarlane herself!

The look on Larissa’s face when I climbed the stairs was priceless.

Yesterday, I joined a special club for women of a certain age! I did not have any fears to prompt joining this club for women, just that I’m now of “that age”

Anyone want to guess what I had done yesterday for the first time? All of my older carers (all bar one) told me it’s only painful for about 20 seconds, so that was promising. If you are not sure? I had my first mammogram! Go women’s health!

Now most importantly, in Clifton Hill today at my favourite café, today’s offering is a Zaffirini arancini (saffron, mint & peas) with the side salad and medicine.

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Last Friday I was very egg-cited! I have created a network of my neighbours who I order a bulk supply of free-range eggs. 20 eggs per tray for $14 and they are big, sometimes, even twins!

I’m delivering the last tray today.

This is my standard week of if you ask me why I’m so tired I will give this standard reply, as I did to my neighbour William when he dropped down for the lasagne, I portioned for him. “Do you want to go home and curl up into the foetal position and cry yourself to sleep tonight?” Because some tender young ears don’t need me to explain I’m peri-menopausal and have the crazy lady hormones that wipe me out two weeks out of every four. I was home yesterday and today I’m out all afternoon.

So, lunch today is vital, pancetta quiche with side salad and medicine!

Here’s the lasagne I made.

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

I’m writing this with a migraine so cut me some slack.

Have been the usual way too busy, last Friday I went to the launch of the first Changing Places in Darebin (that’s my council district) in Preston. It still had that fresh/never used smell which I imagine won’t last long. Thankfully, my mobility won’t mean I ever need to use it. Not complaining!

Sunday saw the arrival of the ladies in my family arrive for the celebration of my mums 70th! Logistically, I’m more in the middle so mum booked a Japanese banquet close to me and I did thousands more steps than I normally rack up! (It’s normally 26 steps, which is the distance from my bed to the couch a few times!)

I had a moment before mum arrived at the restaurant to seek my sisters’ partners advice. I did show the Aussie Slang card to mum and she did laugh but she would not have been pleased had I given it to her. I would never by the way.

I confess I’m not big on raw fish. At one point, my younger sister (30) commented to me “it’s tuna! It tastes like jello!” No, it didn’t. It felt like slime. I’m much more into tempura and definitely the green tea ice cream.

Now, today’s fine offering is panino Milanese with salad and medicine!

Lastly, a shout-out to my Young John and his wife Young Betty who are currently in Greece and to my lovely masseuse and friend Caroline who is in Italy with her husband! Where the rule of no pasta for health reasons sadly still applies. Speaking of pasta.

Last Friday my Girl Friday and I did pasta on Smith Street Collingwood. Here is a before and after picture.

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

I actually had a nice lunch here yesterday on my own. Even did some writing, catching up on the back log. Had two appointments with two different GP’s, so got to have lunch in between.

Monday, I learnt what the financial value is of my time to sit on a committee board as a consumer of public health. I do some voluntary efforts. Some, monthly meetings, locally a bi-monthly meeting all to contribute to offering feedback and ideas on how my experiences can improve other people’s ability to use or access the system we all have access to. There’s plenty of emails, phone calls and politics at times. And none of it paid.

It’s considered we all do it for the love of it, it sometimes it all has its own rewards, like when I got to go to a dinner at Government House a few weeks ago. But nothing helps put food on the table better than cold hard cash! So, for a 3-hour gig I have been told my time is worth $40. Might be having a Naomi Campbell moment but I’m considering setting the standard of not getting out of bed for less than $100. What’s say you?

Meanwhile, today’s lunch consists of a Pumpkin & Spinach Arancini, with side salad and today my medicine is complimentary and comes with a chocolate macaron.

But today I was introduced to my chiropractor’s new resident Enzo. So coot!

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

This week! God help me! For a single barren spinster, there are no bigger words to put the fear of God into me than these “school holidays!”

Parents should be made to enjoy their time with their spawn at home in solitude or grandparents even. Totally getting why grandma had a happy hour. I am not a fan of school holidays. My ovaries dry up.

My girl Tuesday (support worker, one of my regulars) was in a lift in the city and suggested the lift should have music. I reminded her in a building full of people with disabilities and oxide sensitivities that would not go down well. So I proceeded to put this song in her head!

You are welcome!

Was in the city for the last two days, yesterday I didn’t leave until 4.30pm meaning I actually got home in the dark. Don’t know if I’ve mentioned? I can’t see in the dark and I then had to complete all my chores and some and didn’t sit down and take my shoes off until 8pm. Although thanks to my Indian taxi driver Young Deepak, I had eaten dinner by 9pm. He had given me a curry.

I didn’t actually eat lunch today but such an early dinner prompted me to ask Noelle, “is this what it’s like to be old?” and Noelle is my age, so misplaced that it was.

Looking forward to lunch today, an almond croissant and my medicine!

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Why oh, why oh, why……must my brain hurt so very much? I seem to have two weeks of migraine-free before it returns for the other two weeks every month. I’m thinking it’s completely crazy-lady hormone related. Also have had a few way too busy weeks lately.

Thankfully, had a day at home yesterday and to come planning since it’s a bit on the nippy side in Melbourne.

Oh, here’s some good news, I received the results for a test. Negative, which is what you want in this case although I’ve never had a problem with my 2-yearly test and while at one point, my female GP who I see for this test only at one point used the words “I’ve lost my thing!” I informed her they were the words no-one wanted to hear and even better, this test is now only every 5 years. If anyone missed what I’m talking about? I’m talking about woman’s health. Friendly reminder, go get your pap smear.

Now back to normal programming. Today’s offering, it’s the breakfast of champions. A custard donut with medicine.

I had a rough start with my migraine. Breakfast was postponed. But here’s a little street art/graffiti close to where I get stabbed.

Cheers,
H

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Well, this week has been so crazy! Let me tell you in photo form.
Monday! Osteo….

If we didn’t have churches great architectural features would be lost. Hope I get to the Notre-Dame one day! What? I might get there one day? I didn’t see the Sistine Chapel when I was in Rome back in 1994. It’s not even funny, but I always figured it meant I would go again. Right?

I digress, Tuesday, I provided the catering for an event for BIM the self-advocacy group I’m a part of. Basically, did the hunter/gathering, bought the cards, got everyone to write in them. Might get a little career being the buyer for people seeking cool birthday cards. Got an amazing cake for our lovely admin’s birthday! Here is a photo I got before it was almost gone! (#: Another reason Hellonwheels cannot do Insta)

Then, with many steps on my smart phone and minus any medicine. I was home, changed, make-up on and ready to be scooped up Foran event at the (wait for it) Government House Melbourne. It really is spectacular! The invite stated dinner and an upcoming post with better detail the issues with a dress code. But, in short, it’s a challenge for me to find something deemed ‘Appropriate You will see some pictures with me doing ‘Appropriate if you look closely.

Wednesday is looming as I write this. Another crazy day ahead and no sign I’ll get to Clifton Hill to my favourite cafe. No sign I’ll have lunch before this post goes live.

To be continued………………OK, I had lunch but it wasn’t photo-worthy.

Cheers,
H

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Happily back at my familiar lunch spot this week. The roadworks on tram route is over for now, I rang the PTV to learn they have started the accessible tram stops. Thank Fuck! As last week I almost managed to get myself killed. Or at least dragged along beside a bus! You can stay tuned for the long version of that one, sorry.

I’ve just sent my next 40 posts to Noelle. Still so much to catch up on.

Another hectic week so far. Throw in a massage, a migraine by 2, a pre-dinner kip, midnight dinner. A quick half day in the city for admin and chores. This little duck I gave Caroline and how she has used it?

I thought it would remind her of a great You tube clip of a comedian talking about…….maybe just watch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5d8pVg3Qtg

Also went out for din dins with a friend previously mentioned as my Gay Silver Fox and his husband! Cos that isn’t rubbing it in. Finally got to Giro D’Italia where I had this amazing Gnocchi with beef ragout and Tiramisu. They would not help me eat and again reasons why Hellonwheels cannot do Insta, I forgot to get a photo!

And finally, today’s lunch, Pancetta quiche with side salad and my medicine.
