Blogging has definitely made it possible for me to connect with people in far flung places. These people mean so much to me.

Taking Control of Stress

Published June 26, 2018 by helentastic67

My Texan friends recent return to blogging………..welcome her back!

HEALTH | INSPIRATION's avatarHEALTH | INSPIRATION

By Phoebe Chi, MD, MPH

Now that I’ve discussed how harmful chronic stress is to your health…what can you do about it? The very necessary next step (after recognizing what is causing your stress) is to make the decision to take control of it. To decide to take control means that you are determined to start making positive, proactive changes in your life to effectively manage your stress—as opposed to allowing yourself to feel like a victim to it and merely trying to cope with it. This difference in mindset can make a significant difference—the difference between feeling like you’re keeping pace while staying ahead in a race as opposed to lagging behind trying to catch up.

So really, what does this all mean? This post will introduce the most practical way to start taking control of your stress: by practicing the “4 A’s.”

Scooter Etiquette

Scooter Etiquette

Scooter Etiquette

Get out of the Fucking way! Is that rude to say that? I did mention early on that I swear and that has meant I’ve been really good not to in print – much.

Get out of the way

Or I substitute other “words” or phrases, I do my best. Often when debriefing someone about some shitful situation, my frustration is so great every other word is the F* Bomb.

I do it with a smile on my face and a twinkle in my eye and when I do this with people who know me they find my humour and appreciate it too. Thankfully.

Twinkle in the eye

Make a mental note: Surround yourself with people who make you laugh and smile and let you be yourself.

So, I’m getting back into my lunch at my favourite café on Wednesday, no matter how poor I am, so I can write and today, despite being Autumn in Melbourne I was able to scooter.

Lunch

As I was cruising along the High Street to where I have my last appointment and I park my scooter, I was stuck behind two girls just dawdling along. One walking, the other walking her bike, both definitely ‘blocked’ me (saw me other their shoulders) and neither decided to make room, so I could pass. I was late for my rendezvous with Young John and as I was passing the Post Office, I still wanted to make a quick stop.

Walking in front of scooter

So, these fucking girls, not a fricken care in the world.

I have a horn on my scooter that I rarely use. It’s more a “beep” so, I avoid using it. But occasionally, I’m tempted to just growl.

Get out of the fucking way

“GET OUT OF THE FUCKING WAY!”

Is that rude?

Is that rude

Old Granddad Dandelion must have got hot in his room in the West Wing because he’s been leaving his window open this week. Lady Winterton, although young by human standards – mid 20s – has some surprising archaic notions. One being her refusal to install air conditioning anywhere in the rooms of Dandelion Hall. She says it goes against the originality of the place.

If that were true, we’d all be still doing our businesses in the gardens (the dogs don’t count because they don’t care for flushable toilets), and the butler, Giles, would be swanning about in highly crinkled attire, a long spade under one arm, and a bucket in each hand. Deep buckets.

The first I learnt of the afore mentioned window being left open was when some loose papers, having been carried through it by an abrupt…

Some of my Senior readers may not recognize each of them, but practically any teen can tell you that they are all names for marijuana.

You know, that stuff you can roll into a joint that – except in jest – only the most out-of-it refer to as “a funny cigarette.”

The technical term for marijuana is cannabis – for a very good reason.  Since at least 1967, various chemical constituents of marijuana have been classified as cannabinoids.

They act on cannabinoid receptors in cells throughout our bodies, and alter neurotransmitter release in the brain – but they are NOT all the same.

“Nobody explained my brain injury to me”

This is from another ABI/TBI blog I follow. Makes a good point every ABI/TBI is different!

brokenbrilliant's avatarBroken Brain - Brilliant Mind

lightning striking inside a headJust by total chance, a week or so ago, I found myself talking to someone who had a stroke in 2007. Unless they’d mentioned it, I never would have noticed. They’d had four months of recovery, then they got back into their life. And while we didn’t talk that long about it, I got the impression that they hadn’t gotten any help with really understanding their situation after their stroke.

When they ran into their neurologist at the hospital, a few months later, they got a tip about how certain things they were doing were just not very helpful at all. Things like beating themselves up, because they weren’t doing a good job at something… things like getting angry and upset about stuff going wrong in ways that were directly related to their stroke… The neurologist gave them some insight into what was happening with them, and a better way…
