Hot off the Press kitten

So, today’s Hot! Off the press is bought to you by this picture…………

I saw these clocks a while ago at the Swedish warehouse and figured I’ve got a big empty wall in my lounge. This would be cheaper than framing a poster from my trip around the UK and Europe in ’94.

I know I don’t have eyes in the back of my head to see said clock on my lounge wall. But semantics.

When I was in the Swedish warehouse debating with my mum if I could afford the clock, I said; “What’s that? If I carry it I can get it?”

The wall is still bare.

Monday had a use day going to the DAC I’m part of. Ok, fine! Disability Advisory Committee, as usual I end up doing a little facilitating because I have something to share and I’m able to do it in a pointed and formatted way. The meeting was actually on housing in the region particularly the needs of people on the public housing list and that in the Next 10 years over 14,000 more people are expected to settle in the area to call it their home.

Meeting

I used the example of the house that was demolished across the street from me last week. Although it’s only properties where there are more than 30 apartments that will be required to cater to people with disabilities. This is how public housing is trying to avoid the ghetto mentality of some large developments. As there will be owner/occupiers as well as investors/renters that choose to reside there. The general public are outraged the carparks at shopping centres and markets (council owned) look to be redeveloped for these purposes.

Public housing

While, I don’t love it, I get it. I might also not like to live there, I might not have a choice. One day.

From there to my Osteopath appointment and the day went smoothly from there.

My friend Michael dropped me home after an adventure to J-Car! A place I refer to as another tech-friends Temple. I still managed to pick up a few short extension cords. 1 and 2 metres. Always handy to have.

Tech support

Arrived home and Michael attempted to do a little tech support for me. I have a 5 turn-table CD player that I have not been able to use for years as I no longer have an Amp and I wasn’t prepared to sacrifice any of my other tech creature comforts. My DVD provides my surround sound. For everything else.

It should be stating, I’ve deskilled for this kind of tech requirements over the years and as I can’t afford to pay anyone I reward with coffee and muffins. Everyone wins!

After 2 hours, I suggested if he couldn’t fix it I was ok to stand up for a smacking across the bottom. Michael suggested he should have asked more questions and it was more likely to warrant a smack across the face. Not what I’d prefer but a girl can try.

Solution? Helen needs some kind of Receiver. (So, in laments terms an Amp!)

Tuesday a very lazy day again! No complaints.

Wednesday, I was on the Provo trail for food vouchers. So back to the same neighbourhood as Monday but by taxi this time. Did a great deal of walking Wednesday, making up for Tuesday. I even caught the train for about five stops. Because I didn’t get a seat and didn’t want to have to ask for one I stood for about 20 minutes on the train which was like a slow Power-Fit workout. The day ended with 6,000+ steps on the pedometer.

Just an FYI, waving your smart phone in the air or walking around inside holding the phone does not get you steps. Holding the phone to your hip while getting those last 50 steps to get over the 6,000 mark. Gold!

I hope you are all aware I do things every day to help with my depression. I really appreciate the little things in life that put a smile on my face. Because life isn’t all about doom and gloom. Hence, the little witty stories that may seem out of place and make people wonder what Hellonwheels is all about.

Depression

Thursday, got to lay low and have a lazy day at home. Much needed after my marathon effort walking on Wednesday. Again, still not complaining!

Dropped into visit Bella/Killer and no joy! Last week I got to have a moment with her when a mum came in with young children who raced over to chase her away. Will try harder this week. Still no fur-child at Helen’s………….

Cat cafe

It seems this week I’ve had a day on day off all week long. By Friday late afternoon I had a migraine and couldn’t feel much of my left side.

I seemed to barely scrape through to be off-grid on Saturday. Again, ignored my single girl date night film evening to catch up on some TV, as I’m feeling the pressure since all the TV I watch starts again in September and I’m too far behind to allow myself to catch up on movies.

Watching TV

I otherwise had a little email contact with some of my blogger colleagues. It’s rare but really nice. Most days I send or receive messages from one of my blogger friends on Messenger. These small but hugely significant contact really makes my day. As other than my carer, I have no other human contact which seems insane.

Bloggers

Phillip my friend who visited some weeks back was surprised no one reaches out to me to ask how I’m going. I do my Outreach efforts mostly on a Wednesday while out and about and he is one person I reach out to. If he doesn’t receive a text from me by Friday I hear from him. Does anyone else share this experience?

Sunday night I watched the Australian 60 minutes and it featured a story about social media Influencers. An Aussie who takes a photo of herself in a bikini every day, because apparently, it’s beach wear we all live in. A few of my fellow bloggers and I currently suffer from the ‘we are not rich enough’ scenario, for want of a better term. Ladies? Bikini a day is taken. I wonder how many out there would pay not to see me in a bikini. I don’t think I’m touching a bikini ever again… Any takers? Just a thought. And I hope you all realise I mean this in a totally non-trolling kinda way…….perhaps we are not adapting to this new potential income stream that the youngsters are on?

60 minutes

Looks like I’m starting a new week with the migraine that has been lingering since Friday. Seems it is at least my constant companion.

Should be said; I managed to read four comics this last week! Feel like doing an impersonation of the Count off Sesame Street! I can totally justify collecting my three-monthly supply of comics on my trip to the city Tuesday. I receive a discount because I do this. File under cost saving hints!

Here’s for another week!

Happy Monday

Cheers,

H

Hot off the Press 070817

Hot off the Press coming to you through a week-long migraine.

Was lucky I had a 4-day weekend, Monday and Tuesday, I’ve been suffering some diary dyslexia. It’s my term for when two people are not booking the same day/date so I miss out on appointments. Monday night I was actually in bed by 11pm so this is a sign I might have been dying.
Tuesday I didn’t even have my medicine. (Coffee) as someone was due to drop over for coffee and they didn’t……..

My chiro has stopped asking what colour I want. Because I’d either say “black! Got any blacker?” Or “Give me the one that hurts the most when it comes off!” Of course, we both laugh!

Shoulder strapping

Three days later, I peel off the tape in the shower when its wet. If I’m lucky the light fuzz of hair has not grown back yet from the last time. I know, I’m not growing carpet back there but we all have light hair there. Oh, so the tape is to do the job of those muscles that don’t work. I would wear it all the time but, then the muscles would never work so its purpose is to give those muscles a break. And the muscles to my neck wont struggle so much. And maybe my migraine will give me a break as well.

You may have noticed a lack of my standard Wednesday mental health foodie post?
That was because I had company my friend Susanne. We both ordered the same thing, the Zaffaro Arancini with the side salad and a latte. I don’t often have company so it’s nice to take advantage of company and put comics and posts aside and we might eventually catch up on the backlog of my scribbling? No, probably never.

Susanna

Saturday morning, finally quit my damn email at 2am, I decided it was time to switch off the brain and single task. I have no idea who is turning up in the morning for my PC (personal Care) my carer provider is damn lucky I don’t name and shame.

2am

Several months ago, you might recall a house across from me went to auction. A two-bedroom BV.
So, yeah. There was an auction across the road 3 months ago. It was a typical 70’s wog BV (that’s Brick Veneer for people who didn’t grow up with a carpenter as a dad, a grandfather and several others) it sold for practically 1.1 million. Two mornings ago, they started ripping it down. They are fast! And at one point, the earth moved! I wondered if I should huddle in a doorway or the bath. FYI; we don’t get earthquakes or tornado’s in OZ. If that’s your thing, come on down! And today I opened my front door to see this!
Yeah! A big yellow box that it not for growing plants in.

Big Yellow Box

Only read ‘A’ comic last week.  It all things considered…. migraine. I think I can be forgiven?
Also, I hit a blogging milestone last week! I now have 100 followers. As I convinced Susanne to follow so she wouldn’t miss any.

Single girl date night was substituted with a binge fest of a Melbourne show called, Offspring, I save up 3 episodes for an evening of pure unadulterated viewing. It’s the weird family dynamics where everyone gets way too involved in everyone’s lives. If Nina’s acting weird the extended family members want to join in to witness some crazy adventure. Best take away quote was “party pash and a poke!” Or something like that, it’s filmed on my side of town which is cool.

Offspring

Lastly, because I have been recently asked to explain my single status……..I am single because I’m fussy! And I no longer pick up roadkill! Because roadkill don’t always become decent human beings…….I shall plan better another time.

Single status
So for another busy week!
Cheers,
H

Hot off the Press 3107a

And another week has passed and I’m wondering what a Normal week should look like? Monday, saw my shrink. I do love the adventure of going to the city, doing a little hunter/gather and ticking a few mental things off my list.

Mondays

Ironically Tuesday crashed and burned, did not have a good day. The flattest, saddest day I’ve had for a while. Just couldn’t do Person, let alone adult or human-being.

Crash and burn

Sick of family not doing what they have committed to, some family not helping at all and other family forgetting I live alone without so much as a cat! They dump their attitude on me! Always makes me think of when some old lady(parent) cries that her beautiful son has died by their own hand and didn’t even have the decency to leave a note to say why? Seriously, going back to bed until I’ve had enough sleep so I can better deal with the day! (as the roadwork continues outside!)

Wednesday, comes together nicely despite no Young John to tease me and scoop me up and make my life easier. I actually scootered a bit on Monday, then got around by tram, train, lots of steps on my pedometer around the city before another tram ride home.

Wednesday

Thursday, roadworks a constant out on my street, I had a much nicer massage at home from my lovely Caroline. I made sure the rest of the day was very low key.

Thursday

Friday, a newish carer took me out shopping, no pet shops this week sadly. Tried to not stress out my new carer I’ve got for the next month of Fridays. She is young and some of her giggly humour reminds me of my younger sister. She has a little fresh wit I like from my carers.

Friday 1

Have been on the serious Provo-trail this last week or so attempting to save some money, or catch up on rent. A friend advised the best way to save money is to not buy food! What the? You heard!
So, I’ve contacted the two major not for profit welfare agencies. Yield? $60 of which I think the checkout chic may have kept $20 of it, as it did not come off my groceries and I still spent some of my rent. All the bills are paid and the healthy pills restocked. So, now to catch up on rent.

Friday night I was out for dinner with my Boo. Wait! I haven’t been hiding anything. My Boo (sweetheart name) is a I lovely gay friend, and I had been unable to convince our friend Damo to come out. We went to a Greek restaurant and while the entree was ok, the main was substituted for a more expensive option. Not going back there.

Greek menu

Really want to go visit George at Helenic Republic and not just because it has my name on it!
My Boo once worked for the likes of Gordon Ramsey but now works in the Disability sector. He politely informed them what we had ordered versus what they gave us. They looked at me as if my ‘Date’ was trying to show off and that I was dating the wrong guy. Nice, right? My gay friends are the straightest looking men you will ever meet and the benefits for me is I know they like spending time with me for my stela personality.

Have ticked off 5 plus comics this last week. I started a sixth but it got dark. Sunset is around 5.30 at the moment and it snuck up on me. Looking forward to the spring blossoms outside my bedroom window just around the corner. Don’t plan on moving until then. Not that I have seriously been looking.

Forwent the single girl date night this week as I was getting into a show I couldn’t stop watching. You probably realise I watch a great deal of TV, it’s my thing. It’s how I switch off my very busy brain. It’s what entertains me and often how I mark time passing. Sounds ridiculous but…… So, I’m always behind. The distraction this week I will describe as this; Netflix, Baz Lehrmann, the Bronx, Late 70’s Disco and the Black Music scene that later became Hip Hop. Think Beastie Boys but black and all the classic 70’s clothes, cars and graffiti. And then you have a show called the Get down. Only 11 episodes, the first 90 minutes long and the rest an hour each. I know some people won’t commit to watching a show unless it’s more than a season however I understand this show was so expensive to make they couldn’t do more than a season. Baz Luhrmann does a great job though you can never say he doesn’t. I think the soundtrack would be a must have. For something very different from Helen’s normal.

Get down

The weekend has ended with a rare but welcome visit from a friend who lives hours away, but when working in this part of Melbourne for a day will come and stay over at the Chateau de Helen. Have I mentioned I’m lucky I have a spare bedroom? Single bed but….better than nothing. Phillip, I’ve known for 20 years from when he and his wife owned a toy shop in my country town that I grew up in, at a time I lived back in that area for two years in the late 90’s.  His kids were just little kids then but now are all grown up. Phillip is often my tech-support and while I barely speak Apple he has a PC brain. There is lots of disrespect for Apple and lots of me telling his where to go. But between the two of us, we upgrade and de-bug my laptop! And he’s off to bed hours before me. So, here I am writing this post before I start my wind-down. Supper and a Cuppa T, I think and maybe I might make my curfew of 1am. Closer to 1 than 2 isn’t really getting 1am………but I’m trying.

Computer wiz

My left shoulder is hurting, I’ve obviously done something. I can’t feel a drag of the muscles over my shoulder and down the front of my neck. Think I’ll be asking my Chiro to tape it this week. She prompts how much/where? I will be suggesting she put layers down, pull it up and put it just everywhere, front and back of my left shoulder prompting a laugh from her. “Just put it everywhere!”

Shoulder

To another crazy adventurous week. Trying to get the digits up on the pedometer to make Young John proud.

And hoping I get that final follower to get me to 100, not that I get that much feedback in the form of Likes, I know I have my small number of serious followers who like and comment. To you few, luv your work!
Cheers,
H

Good week

Hot of the Press

Hot off the Press!

Very happy that I’ve followed through on my commitment to provide a current snapshot of Life with Hellonwheels. Going to guesstimate it’s now 2 months.

In recent weeks, I’ve attempted to make a serious commitment to get to bed early. You will already be aware I am NOT a morning person, unless it’s between 12am and 2am! So, attempting to set a realistic achievable goal of 1am, I failed every night the first week, although, if 1.04am, I consider that a win! The last four nights I’ve managed to get into bed before 1am and I can’t wait to get an eye roll from Ms Jillian tomorrow for my monthly head-check. I will get lots of steps on my pedometer to more than make up for it.

Early night

Have had a very busy week and while I usually see my lovely Young John at least three times a week, he’s off to Greece today for at least five weeks with his wife Young Betty.

Greece

As he never charges me, so I have to consider realistically which of my appointments I can live without. I now need to taxi ($$$) to appointments or rug up and walk to the tram and cater to the fact that I will get wet. I can’t use both my walking stick and an umbrella.

We are over the halfway point in winter in Melbourne but this is the wettest part of winter and the start of Spring.

Thinking to do like a bear and hibernate. Plenty of TV to watch, currently watching some Hawaii 5 Oh! To trick myself into thinking it’s not so cold. It’s not working.

Hibirnation

Oh, the start of the week saw my mum here for about 24 hours. This week both my parents celebrated their birthdays. 68 and 69, I think. Young compared to many of my friend’s parents.

Happy birthday

Visited the pet shop again to check on Ralph’s fate. He had been adopted the day before and another cat had also come and found a new home. Another to arrive that day and still no new fur-child for me. Sad face. But the trip to the pet shop revealed there will be a Cat Lounge opening in August in a neighbouring suburb. FYI: Lounge presumably is a fancy name for a cafe, in a suburb I wouldn’t consider fancy. But until I move and/or get my new fur-child I foresee myself being a regular visitor.

Fur baby

The drama of finding carers has continued. Last Monday I went to the top and sent a polite but brief text to the CEO (what? He told me I could call him!) and within an hour I received an email of my roster. So, definitely doing that again.

Still adding to the mental list of how many carers have seen me naked. The least favourite thing about having and needing carers to do the most simple and mundane of tasks. I’ve decided to cancel four of my FP (food preparation) shifts this week. I need a break from the rostering nightmare and staff changes. If I have to micromanage someone I might as well do it myself. If it’s something I can’t do one-handed it can wait.

Naked

Still no new shoes to speak of. Starting to get murderous thoughts at the powers that be ‘getting in my way’.

The NDIS is supposed to be life changing. Then why do I have blisters on my toes? Less travel assistance and I am forced to trim my own fingernails on my left hand until I butcher them as I don’t know how short I cut them until they hurt! My chiropractor put my rib back in and it was bruised for days yet, that was something my CM decided warranted an incident report to assist me getting my monthly chiropractor bill covered. Here’s hoping.

NDIS

Lastly, my anniversary White Tail Spider bite flare up has returned. So, it’s as itchy as hell and the skin peeling is about to start again.

White Tail spider

Oh, I got through three comics this week and also filed away the ones I’ve read this year. Going to need a new achieve box soon. I’ll try to read a few more comics before I make my next pilgrimage to the comic shop. I do this every three months.

Comics

To a less chaotic week ahead!
Cheers,
H

Have a great week

Hot off the Press

Just an FYI; received two proposals for marriage last week, on the same day. Like I’ve not waited 44 years….ok, maybe not the first 23 or so….but the last 20 sure and got them both in the same day. One was simply because I made minestrone and didn’t stuff it up.

Gave some to the lovely gentleman Tony previously mentioned and the second offer came from another gentleman for a reason I cannot even recall. Both men old enough to be my father! So, not offended. Let’s move on………

Story for the week re the Place I go? Previously, the crazy woman who threatened me? This week a lady was wandering around in her winter jacket (only) while she ran her clothes through the washer/dryer. She kept using the washer then the dryer about three times so she was there all day! With the machine busy all day and proceeded to make a mess of the bathroom (there is a shower there) and she managed to flood the laundry twice. The place survives with one underpaid staff member and volunteers. This woman could not be reasoned with, she would not clean up after herself as she felt she wasn’t paid to clean so, she almost had the only paid person on site in tears trying to reason with her to leave and take her presence elsewhere. I was in the office filing away client files (mine included) helping any way I could to lighten the staff members workload. I even did a little parenting since grandma wasn’t doing it. I do grumpy parenting under these circumstances by the way. “No! No one’s using that computer. But go out there and stay out of the way!” I might also have ended up sitting on the floor in tears but luckily my day ended by being given a lift home. About 3-4 suburbs away.

Laundromat

We eventually paid the terrible laundress money that had been donated that day so she could take her wet clothes to the local laundromat to dry them there. She even had the audacity to demand change for the dryers. I later learned her mentality is due to alcohol related dementia.

So, everybody put down those glasses and I have been starting to consider alcohol an affordable solution…..

Also attempted to propose a foodie gathering with the ladies in my family. My mum, younger sister and my older sister with her partner. Suggested a gathering so we don’t just all see each other together once a year if we are lucky.

I offered to cook my amazing Chicken Veggie Lasagne. At least I got responses despite not the ones I had wanted. So, I might be making my lasagne for my friends instead as my family gathering is not going to happen. Not surprised but still disappointed, everyone in my family has someone else except me. Feeling like an orphan.

Chicken Lasange

Finished 2 comics this week! I read both in a single sitting for each which felt like an achievement however I’ve obviously been churning through all the A’s -B’s and having just read a season of Willow from the Joss Whedon. I’m way behind still. The final Willow Comic Season, had an advert for a Comic Con….Dated 2013! Grrrrr……Just when I thought I was getting somewhere!

Also had company for my standard Single Girl Date Night! I referred to us as the 3 Amigo’s watching, you guessed it “The 3 Amigo’s!” I suggested to the others, to work out which actor they felt they embodied. I ended up Martin Short but, I’m not complaining. I haven’t seen the film in years, but recently added it to my collection. Now I have the tune My little butter cup song in my head!

3 Amigos

My guests fell asleep sitting up on the couch before 9pm! After the film ended and their kip’s over I fed them. Everyone was happy! They departed by 11pm.

In recent weeks, I’ve learnt the meaning of the term ‘False economy. For example: 1. An NGO (Not for profit/None Government Organisation) self-advocacy group has been funded nearly half a million dollars just before the end of the financial tax year because the government had a surplus. Now, that agency has been given that funding to roll out what they do in Victoria but in the other States as apparently Victoria is ahead of the curve and the other States are behind, and they will get it done. However, in the following years they can’t expect the funding to be there to help get the work done or keep the ball rolling. They will need to tender for ongoing funding.

False economy

My firsthand experience of the false economy is that my Case Management organisation who also provide the bulk of my carers these days has not been particularly efficient and as my NDIS package was not correctly implemented (not getting my shoes, etc) the company has offered to find the money for my shoes to keep me happy. Little does the guy who suggested this to my Mum to appease her know I need 2 pairs of shoes and they cost AU$460.00 a pair! But they cannot seem to fix the communication issues in their organisation so I have a roster every week for my carers no more than two carers in any given week. Lastly, the lovely newly qualified lady from the Rio/Remedial clinic came to give me a massage on Thursday. I put on some lovely soothing music. Dead Can Dance.

Just as we got started, out the front of my house some overdue roadworks started! My council has been promising speedhumps down my wide street to slow down the hoons for years! Then down the back someone started some gardening with a Chainsaw!!!!

Sweet Jesus! I was neither happy nor relaxed! The Universe did not get my memo….. for peace and calm.

On Friday, while out shopping with my carer we visited a pet shop in a neighbouring suburb. It’s the kind that has pets for sale bunnies, fish. On this occasion, a kitten curled up fast asleep, I let it sleep. It was a challenge as they usually have a cat that has been rescued, fostered by a crazy cat lady in the countryside to be rehabilitated (my word not there’s) and their health attended to. Then transported off to pet shops for sale to living pet owners.

Ginger cat

This is how I came to meet Ralph on Friday. Ralph is a 2-year-old boy, ginger and white, long-haired. He is a very big boy. I asked Mark if he would get him out of his 3-tiered enclosure so I could do more than beg to scratch his head. He was inundated by hand from everywhere prompting me to ask a man (whose daughter was patting him) if he would give Ralph a good home. He confessed they had two cats at home already so I continued to introduce myself to young Ralph. Luckily, Mark (staff) lives in my street so we discussed renting in the area while I managed to get a headbutt from Ralph. I suspect Ralph is a Maine Coon breed, but I don’t think they know this. Mark told me the long-haired cats get snapped up very quickly there. The last cat they had was there a month, Ralph had arrived only the day before. These cats are vet checked and neutered. And cost only $120. My carer and I stopped for a coffee break next door and I rang my mum. I really miss sharing my home and coming home to another living breathing creature but mum is convinced I’m not getting another cat until after I’ve relocated.

Again, I’ve come to the conclusion I won’t find anything cheaper of a reasonable size where I won’t go bat-shit claustrophobic crazy, so I want help to be able to afford to stay. I look to my mum to encourage me to have another cat but she is not very encouraging.

I have a wardrobe full of clothes from my old life I want to sell. I’ve recently been in pursuit of some consultancy work. To help me afford the things I need but cannot afford but it’s hard to convince people with an ABI who have plenty of funding how the rest of us live. He keeps offering me work telling me how much he needs me but if I do any work, I risk losing all of my income and I can’t work enough to cover what I would lose. So, I’ve started to withdraw my advice and energy.

I’m finding while not financial I get some great rewards from my blogging community even if all I’m doing is advising someone who hasn’t left the house in 9 years, how best to utilise their carers. She now gets carers because I asked her what she was waiting for. Her blogging is not as prolific however her tone is clearly more upbeat.

So, again all I can hope is that this week is not as stressful and I can read more comics.

Cheers,

H

Good week

Hot off the Press 100717

Today’s Hot off the Press will be bought to you today by the letters ‘F’ for Helen’s favourite word and ‘A’ for my apology for using the favourite word with frequency that might upset some. Only for the events that were on Monday and all in context to what happened. Anyway, let’s move on.

Calendar

Monday, I was at my usual free community it’s health clinic only ever referred to as the Place. Trying to multitask and do my admin/emails while conversing with a nice gentleman called Tony and another lady joined the conversation. Well, she actually hijacked the conversation and it tuned out as I was getting a migraine. After a while, Tony disappeared and as I was not coping with being talked to (note, not with but at) I had asked her to stop. Several times, when she didn’t I humorously asked if she could talk under water? (Gets a laugh, yes. But apparently inflammatory) but I honestly thought it was better than a Shut the fuck up! Or outright Fuck off!……no? Tony returned with the woman who runs the place. She took a physical position between the other woman and myself. I had been aware she had been competing with me, but I had not been baiting her or responding to her so I didn’t realise she had been attempting to intimidate me by standing over me. Management seemingly came to my rescue and feeling miffed the other woman left. It was explained to me she has a very prison mentality and had spent 8 years in prison (wait!) for killing her husband. (And that is not the punchline)

Um, a new friend from this Place has said when you feel like your life is totally shit (paraphrasing) you go to this Place and then from what you see your life doesn’t seem that bad. It is presumed I should be getting my social community fix from this place.

I did attempt to explain to this woman why I wasn’t coping with her talking at me. I mentioned I had a brain injury and her only response to this was “everybody has a brain injury these days!” I honestly didn’t know how to respond. Note it would still be rude for me to have told her to fuck off or shut the fuck up! Go figure….and I’m the one with the brain injury.

I was given a lift home by said gentleman, after I joined them for some good social contact ie; joined them at the pub for beer. I had lemon, lime and bitters. Once home, coffee was had while my carer completed her chores.

Tuesday, went to the brain injury group I’m part of in the city for some Shanghai Doodle. (Think Chinese whispers but on paper) Good times, it seems even with only 8 people with brain injuries I still go home with a migraine. It would seem my ABI is not compatible with others in large numbers.

Wednesday, you may have noticed a lack of my Foodie Post? I didn’t have time to tap out an email on my iPhone as I was busy with company. A friend who I have not seen in some years joined me and much discussion was had. Here is a picture of Ro with the (I can never recall the name, so I call it the) Salted a caramel thing………I generally only have it in my birthday week and it must be shared and accompanied by coffee.

Ro

I’m not too good with photography these days…

Thursday, had the day off. Making me a very happy camper. Still had calls to deal with in the never-ending drama of needing personal carers. I confess I had some fun at the expense of my young carer who got a tongue piercing. Making it impossible to understand her with her tongue swollen. I resorted to suggesting she throw me a few words and I would attempt to make a sentence from them. Couldn’t help myself.

I don’t have any unusual piercings, not my thing. But I found myself explaining to Young John why people might get their tongues pierced? That wasn’t awkward at all. Speaking of Young John, still got that damn song in my head. “Shuddup-a-your face!”

Friday ended with a large pot of bolognaise sauce in my slow cooker. Yield? About 8.5 bottles.
Which might explain why my left hip hurt Saturday. Some weird thing even the physiotherapists can’t explain. When I do too much or lift heavy things, I shouldn’t one-handed my left hip hurts. Yes, it super-awesome! Not!

Managed a whole comic this week, I know, only one, but I did get to replenish the pile in the lounge to get through in the coming weeks.

Single girl date night included the “Guardians of the Galaxy’ which I finally saw in full and much TV was watched. It sometimes feels like my appointments and visionary achievements (TV Shows) really do mark the passing of time and there is nothing major to report. Really feel like I’m treading water and not making any significant mark on this planet.

Guardians of the Galaxy

The weekend was spent otherwise off-grid. Just the way I like it and now it’s Monday and the crazy starts all over again.

Big week huh? I can do without so much excitement this week. Please?
Cheers,
H

Have a great week 1

Another weird week has passed! Finished three comics and felt a moment of joy at this until I saw an advert for a Comic Con, in the States. The advert stating “Coming in September in 2015!” Growl!

Comic Con

Went out for dinner Tuesday night with some friends. Damo and my Boo. More later on Damo, however my Boo is one of my lovely gay friends who takes us out every now and again for adventures. We went to a ‘Place’ for dinner, prompting me to give people a pop quiz.

What suburb was this place in and what food did they specialise in? It was called Coburger and Co. Hint: There is a suburb in the North of Melbourne called Coburg. This pop quiz really threw a few people and they live here.

Coburger

It’s going to be a monthly adventure ongoing as it’s good to catch up with friends and have a laugh. My chicken burger with Kim chi set my mouth on Fire!

Wednesday for some crazy reason, I had a weird song in my head that I proceeded to share with Young John and Maria my Chiro who I’ve been seeing for over 12 years.

This song is a bit of an ear-worm so it quickly prompted her to thank me because she couldn’t get it out of her head either. Your welcome! Try the link at the bottom for a taste of Aussie/wog culture from the 80’s! As I prompted Young John….feel free to join in!

This week I decided to call my father. I only see him once a year. The only time I speak to him is if and when I call him. I attempted to express how much I needed his help. How I’ve spent money on new pants in time for winter ($24). How often I do my laundry so I can utilise my warmest tops. I even attempted to express how my fur-baby had been good for my mental health. Let me just say I used to be much better at guilting my father into helping me, because it would seem that’s my role in our family. I will also say it was half an hour of my life I will never get back!

Thought I would have a nice Thursday at home, but while I was at home I instead spent the afternoon chasing up services that didn’t just happen. Really wish my service providers would get their shit together to do their jobs.

Friday morning, I had a visit from a vampire. Taking my blood for a barrage of tests. Said vampire asked when I would see my GP again? It’s ok, if there’s anything noteworthy he will call me. Just checking up on the iron levels and such and the crazy lady hormones.

Vampire

Not sure if I’ve expressed sufficiently how cold my home is in winter or the cheek I have with my carers however, Friday I gave my carer the Coo-Wee! That signalled I was ready for her help in the bathroom and after a deafening silence I heard the doorbell. Not uncommon however Aunty Christine was in the house this day and she has been one of my regulars for over 4 years. So, only able to throw a towel over one shoulder I padded bare ass naked really to the front door to let her back in. Steam coming off my very warm body and prompting Aunty Christine that she was not yet ready for her apprenticeship to be done.

Doorbell

Come a September I lose these carers I’ve had for the longest. I don’t have any new girls who I imagine will take their place.

Had an extra visit to my favourite cafe with my Friday afternoon carer so that was nice. Home again and smashed out a large slow cooker batch of minestrone the yield was about 8 Passatta bottles (300mls each). It’s always nice to gift someone a bottle of soup in winter when they have done something nice for me. I’m such a Nonna. (BT Dubs, that’s an Italian Grandmother!) I now need to offload half of the minestrone so I can make a batch of bolognaise sauce. Have I mentioned I don’t know how to cook for just one?

Minestrone soup

Now, despite my best efforts at times at avoiding lifting my slow cooker there are times carers don’t turn up or I can’t find someone to lift the very heavy ceramic bowl up onto the bench or to the sink to soak before washing etc. I imagine I lifted it about five times, which is about half the amount of times it moved in order for me to use it and empty every last drop of the minestrone soup from it. I shouldn’t lift it at all obviously so I do love when I have a carer my age who complains about how heavy it is. I nip their cries in the bud quickly stating “Tell me about it. I moved it one-handed!”

Slow cooker

I don’t make a habit of lifting heavy things one handed anymore as I think I can blame doing this for my disc-bulge surgery back in 2011. There are times now when I forget how long that year was getting diagnosed, suitably medicated and eventually surgery on 11/11/11, when I get some stabbing sensation in my lower back and I realise I’ve got to stop lifting heavy things and I’m really not ready for another year existing only by spending all my time lying on my bed.

Single girl date night I watched Trainspotting 2, the sequel to the 90’s film Trainspotting. Not as shocking as the first but a 20-year reunion to see what happened to these characters.

trainspotting 2

Meanwhile, another week passes and a nice busy week coming. Winter in Melbourne and wet. Super!

Should mention the best way to survive winter in Melbourne is layers, layers and layers. Oh, wool jacket, umbrella and great coffee! Handy hint if coming to town! I’ve been wearing wool under my jackets for months, I can only go one further by wearing my long-sleeved wool jacket under my heavier jacket. It’s already next Level.

Melbourne weather

The only upside is the very brilliant TV series filmed in Melbourne called Offspring has returned. If you have the opportunity watch it!

Offspring

Hot off the Press

Not much to bang on about for the week that was…….didn’t feel like I ‘kicked any goals’ so to speak.

My mum was down literally for only 24 hours in which time we drove several suburbs out of our way to get my new Dripolator coffee machine. Don’t ask……….Mum was actually down for a medical appointment of her own so once in the electrical goods store when mum mentioned where she was from and what she had come down to, (medical appointment) the staff murmured a noise of concern. (You know how woman do?) I cut the tone short by saying “It’s ok, she going to live forever!” Then they presumed I was not thrilled by this prospect. So, I had to dispel that also. I paid for my new medicine machine (coffee maker!) and mum of course stated she was there to carry it to the car. I growled at her that the box was full of plastic and air, as if she should stop complaining and because we always compete as to who gets the last word I snapped out; ” It’s because of me we get a carpark right next to the door!” I gave a coy smile to the startled staff and turned to head for the door. They laughed!

Dripolator

This is pretty stock standard of my mum and my level of communication. We don’t hold back if one of us things the other is deserving of a “Fuck off!” Or a “Whatever!” And it has taken 10 years for us to reach this point. Don’t be concerned, it’s a positive.

Sometimes I wonder how other bloggers go about ‘naming and shaming’ poor attitudes of family and friends and if they worry about backlash? But I understand my family might occasionally look at my blog but largely don’t bother. That said, I heard this week my younger sister (I’ll point out arrived just shy of my 15th birthday) is just starting 4 weeks of leave from her work. I offered she could come and visit a few days, we could hang out, go places, do things. Visit the Van Gogh exhibition at the NGV?

little sister

This quiet not confident offer was suggested on Facebook, the way distant family communicate. I was swiftly dealt a curt, “Nope!” I offered she could think about it a bit longer before deciding. Did I mention I changed this sibling’s nappies 28 years ago? And I see my sisters usually once a year.

Said younger sister, well deserving of her holiday. Not untrue, just doesn’t get my call for a visit and I couldn’t be bothered poking this bear. Leaving me a little sad. Does anyone else have a suggestion on how to prod family in a way I won’t have my one good hand bitten off?

And yes, like I mentioned I don’t think my family will read this since I have proof I have more Impact on people around the world from me than my own blood. Nothing like feeling like your living outside a family, trying to look in.

Feel free to give me a Like so I know you stopped by.

Otherwise, the week saw 2 comics move locations this week. No new posts written in pen on paper. A visit to the city to see my shrink. Did a workout (one-handed) on a photocopier of the next 40 posts to post to the lovely Noelle my Administrator.

Discovered my new favourite card shop in the city. Found completely on a whim, and was even able to replace my oven timer for baking accuracy. Didn’t realise how heavy it was until I got home. My bag was so heavy on Monday!

Kitchen timer

Got some big numbers on my pedometer this week. 4,444 – 5,739 and today a neat 69! My left foot is really paying for it. Often those busy days I can’t feel my left foot until it HURTS! So clearly not happy I still don’t have my NDIA funded shoes!

Had my once-yearly haircut this week, only 9 months overdue. I’ve given up paying rent on time and prioritised things I want/need instead. I asked my hairdresser for a discount on my trim (B.T. dubs:3 inches) and I’ve never felt so humiliated for being poor but wanting to be treated like everybody else. How dare I imagine I was allowed to? Left me feeling rather sad and sick and unpampered. (I didn’t get a wash or a blow dry and she was still put out for not respecting she was running a business) very sad face!

Hair cut

Still plenty of issues managing my HR, (Human Resources/carers) but it’s an ongoing issue.

Single girl date night saw me watch Underworld. Blood Wars. Mostly, I single tasked but it’s always a challenge………

Underworld

With the plunger coffee finally put to rest with the new medicine machine I posed the question of a few trusted advisors, plunger coffee or no coffee? In the same tone as bad sex or no sex? The answer was neither in case anyone asks?

Plunger

And then another week begins!

Lack of caffiene

Cheers,

Like sands through an hourglass and so are the days of. No! I can’t finish it. It’s another Hot off the Press! Another week has gone and a new one dawning. Always feel like I’m behind and I can’t catch up!

Days of our lives

Last week, I had a little catch up on self-maintenance. Had a nice paraffin hand treatment. Not because I’ve been particularly wealthy, but because the anniversary of my WTS, White Tail Spider bite has happened and the itchiness and the peeling skin has ended and putting moisture back into my one good hand was imperative. Had my lovely Mio/Remedial massage at home in my own lounge (which is heated) unlike the old bluestone church I normally re-dive my free community it’s health services. Definitely plan to keep the rest of the day free so I can go kip. It’s a plan!

White tailed spider

Moved some comics, it’s from the big pile to the smaller one. Three comics this week, well I’d half-read one of them, but again still counts!

I imagine I’ve failed to mention I read the Joss Whedon comics? Buffy, Angel, Spike, Willow to name just a few? There! Now, I have.

Joss Whedon

Have been watching a doco-type TV show on cars. From the UK. Not your family style station wagons at all but I’m behind on all TV shows because I watch so very much. And yes, TG, that’s Top Gear is on that list. I’m just discovering if it is any good without Jeremy Clarkson and the lads? Jury is still out. It’s too soon to tell. My original Hellonwheels scootering T-Shirt is a Stig Tee. Of the Tame Racing Car driver. I really wanted the T-Shirt that announced “I am the stig!” because it’s a mystery who wears the white suit. Or is it?

Top Gear

I’ve been having a Hate/Hate relationship with my oven. Just made a carrot cake, which went better than the first attempt. This one managed to get cream cheese frosting on it. I now must proceed to give as much away as possible, so I’m not tempted to eat some every day. Just starred at it longingly wondering if I could have it for breakfast? (The answer is of course no. You cannot!) as I’m taking my breakfast to eat on the train to the city. Yes, it’s my Bullshit form of retirement I have.

And a planned afternoon tea with some friends on Tuesday. Stay tuned.

Managed to implement a successful Single Girl Date Nite! I watched a DVD a friend loaned to me. “An Affair to Remember.” Good Lord! Just consulted the Google Machine……it was released back in 1957!

Single Girl Date Night

Have still failed to improve my sleeping pattern, and will be reporting as much tomorrow when I see my Shrink! However, Saturday night was in bed by 12.30am! So, it’s fair to say, I’m feeling old! As that used to be the time I was arriving at the first club on a Saturday night! Life as I knew it is over. Is this really it?

Still, all the same drama and red tape to sort funding. In particular for the rather Exe shoes I need for my AFO.

Hot off the Press!

Well, another busy week under the belt. It’s a zero for comics read this week. One day last week I actually walked home down my street in the dark. It’s not advisable as seeing in the dark with half the eyesight is not great! It’s getting dark by 5.30 now it’s winter!

Walking in dark

Thursday, I had a nice country adventure with the brain injury group I’m part of. We went to Moe, a part of Victoria that seemed to get on the map (so to speak) 20 years ago for all the wrong reasons. I was pre-empting my adventure with the description of Moe as the place Bogans are from. I have a full-length post to best describe what a bogan is. You will just have to wait. It’s not great!

Moe

Often when I get together with this group of people, there are a few stand out favourites I love to spend time with and rarely get a chance to. I do love to deliver one guy my standard greeting. I did so while standing speaking to a nice mum who had bought her son along. Said son had developed his ABI from heatstroke while working in Queensland on a building site. He was wheelchair bound and it took 7 years to get Workers Compensation to cover his injury. But without batting an eye, I delivered my colleague my customary “Shut the fuck up!” And kept my conversation with the mum going. She was actually amused. Thankfully. It’s my thing, so don’t judge me. A meeting doesn’t feel complete if I don’t get to deliver these immortal words to this guy.

One of my other peeps, a woman called Anne (she won’t mind) gave her friend a smack in the moosh (mouth) during a drawing exercise and when prompted to explain her sudden outburst, she smartly retorted with “You had it coming Bitch!”

Fore-went my Saturday night single girl date night (watching a film) to do serious catch up on TV shows. I’m so far behind. Nothing super noteworthy…….. I’m currently catching up on real TV I’ve recorded in the past week. A great show from a series called “You can’t ask me that!” Where each week they cover a different topic, have people come in and answer a series of questions by anonymous people online. Unless you have a VPN you can set to Australia you won’t be able to access it. Sadly, this episode is on Centenials. Like some thought provoking shows this series will make you laugh and cry. Like the episode a few weeks back on the topic suicide.

You can't ask me that

I quit Physiotherapy last week deciding I had been crippled enough and rather didn’t appreciate being told my left thigh muscles weren’t as good as I thought! Way to make friends and influence people: Not! Nobody loves being criticised least of all me!

Quitting Physio

Brief visit Wednesday saw me visit the cat, Bella/Killer (depends who you ask) and I got another good pat. Keeping the need to visit Lost Dogs Home or pet shops at bay. No house hunting this week, it’s really slowed down with winter and having seen the other limited options.

Pet shop

Lastly, Jamima’s couch has finally gone out for hard rubbish collection. I kept it for 3(?) years taking up prime real estate in my lounge so she would not lose her favourite hiding place. Her safe place when the vacuum cleaner came out, children, fast cars down the driveway, thunder, noisy drilling or roadworks. You know the stuff. Jamima would find her way under the couch and into a whole in the lining underneath and settle in to be both cocooned and hammocked inside its protective hidey hole. Stinking hot weather or freezing cold it was her favourite for 16 years. Many an argument was being had with my mum as to when it was time to get rid of it and now it is gone.

Jamimias couch

The search for a new coffee carafe proved unsuccessful. A new coffee pot is imminent. Had to resort to plunger coffee.

coffee carafe

Now, it’s after 2am Monday morning. I’m sending this now after time out. Have made some additions. And likely no time tomorrow before I head out to my first appointment.

Lastly, this is a picture for the Rumpsters fur-mum and June Buggie. Both recently departed.

RumpsterIn Memory

And now for another week!
Cheers,
