Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Another Wednesday dawns and much to share. Firstly, an apology for Monday’s post arriving a day later than normal. You might be aware I post Monday, Wednesday and Friday with an attention to promptness?

So, to explain. I’m sure you will understand my lovely Noelle my administrator who does all the magic to put my words live, mourns the passing of her mother. And she was put to rest Monday. While she lives in Sydney and I in Melbourne I finally got to meet her! Not the best of circumstances however after about six years of daily contact and a rare phone all. We actually got to meet! And yes, I made her try the prickly pear (it’s a very short season of which I bought only 12) Here is a picture of us.

Slumber party

Just a couple of kids

By the time I remembered to get a photo we were both in our jimmy jimmies (slumber party!) and very tired. Hence the above! No, it’s not us but I gave Noelle creative license to go crazy! Sadly, she was only here for one night! But I made sure to take her for coffee! Since MELBOURNE does have far superior coffee to Sydney!

Melbourne Coffee

But the excitement for the week was not yet over, what else could there be, I hear you ask? Monday early evening around 6.30pm, the fire alarm went off in the apartment block and we had to evacuate. Sounds a bit exciting right? Will Helens fantasy of being rescued from her second-floor balcony by a ‘hot’ fireman really happen? The block is six stories and there are lots of apartments and never an opportunity to meet anyone. Well, until there is an incident like this, after pulling on my cuff and collar, grabbing my bag and walking stick I left the building. In the lift, where it clearly states in case of fire avoid using the lift! (How else was I supposed to get out?) I later learnt there are two staircases I’m just hoping there is a handle on the right-hand side and in a serious potentially smoke-filled environment I don’t get pushed down the stairs? He sent fantasy? What! A girl can dream!

Fire Alarm

After standing around downstairs (wish I’d bought a jumper…..bbbbrrrrrr)  not one but two firetrucks came! People started heading back upstairs. I asked two firemen if it was ok to go back up? What had been the problem? He told me someone had been cooking bread rolls and they had caught on fire! And had it been me?

Hot fireman

How dare he! And on the lift ride back up having started a conversation with another tenant who provided me with some relief that this happens about once-yearly, she was going upstairs to find her cat who would likely be traumatised. One cat condo had appeared downstairs in the evacuation so seemingly good pet parenting there and if I had a cat I would have struggled to catch, shove in a cat condo and get it and myself outside, stairs aside! Again, fantasy prevails!

In the lift

In the lift, I noticed the only other people in the building I know. They swapped car spaces with me so I could access power for my scooter and they live two doors down from me, so have been initiated into my free food trade agreement. So, I asked him in the lift if he had been baking? Rightly he denied such action but there was a murmur of humour. I later messaged him apologising ‘bake-shaming’ him in public. He took it so well and that was just Monday, this is why I stopped writing my Monday Hot off the Press posts. They were while accurate, so busy.

Baking bread

Now, it’s Wednesday and with a grasp on calm today’s offering is another Ortolani quiche with a side salad. And my medicine.

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Well, last week I visited Neko Cat Lounge in Melbourne. Prompting me to email a photo to my property manager with the sentence “Can I have her?” Accompanied by this photo.

Jody

And an assortment of others.

Two cats were adopted that day.

Bruce here, would have gone home too but he wouldn’t come out of his tree! This was all you could see of him and I confess I took advantage and gave his head some pats, he was baby-soft! He was a 3.5-year-old rag doll. Both Ms T and I wanted to see him come out of his tree so we could see all of him. While he didn’t come out another cat climbed into the cat condo awaiting Bruce I suggested “2 for 1?”

Bruce

Waiting to hear from my property manager.

And just because my carer and her hands-on Monday.

So, while I enjoy lunch, today’s offering, Pancetta quiche with side salad and my medicine.

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Well, midweek in a short week. This Friday is Good Friday, so if you were planning too many things this week and will struggle with only a 4-day week. You can blame Jesus! And strap in, next week is a short one also!

Good Friday

Here’s something a bit different and, well I think interesting? This was breakfast! You know those days where you think this will not make a very good photo?

Prickly Pear
This is the Prickly Pear and no, I can’t describe it but it tastes delicious and despite only touching tongs and the plastic bag I still had annoying thistles in my ONE GOOD HAND! File under weird Wog food. Your welcome!

Today’s offering, is an Zaffarino Arancini with side salad. (Saffron rice, mint and peas) With my medicine!

Zafferini

And you should know this is not what I would cook at home.

Good Mental Health Day

Good Mental Health Day

Another Wednesday creeps around, this week so far less stressful.

Although the usual drama organising carers to get organised to get out of the house (paraphrasing, I now live in an apartment) and get to an early appointment then home again in time for my 2pm carer. Does this ever end?

Organised

Today’s offering is Fungi Pizza with the side salad and my medicine. I’m not big on mushrooms but on a rare occasion maybe I’m feeling a little mouldy. (Get it?)

Good Mental Health Day

I’ve really got to stop doing things to report on in the first half of the week! Or my lunch/good mental health day post is going to be less foodie more updatey! (It should be a word!) all I’m saying!

Good Mental Health

Monday, Public holiday did some gardening which is ironic since I live on the second floor of an apartment complex these days.

Gadenimg

Went to a AGM on Tuesday that was over-due from last year. Started the day with a migraine ended it with an even bigger one. Not happy! But something was achieved at the meeting. Only time will tell…

AGM

Can now provide you with an ok photo of my bruises from last Tuesday’s fall. This is a week later and my left arm, you know how I have less sensation on that side, right? It still hurts! Oh, I created a new swear word today! Fairy truck! Who says Fairies don’t have trucks or drive? You never know, they might? Yes, you may use it but you can only do so if you credit Hellonwheels/Lifeonehanded.
Your welcome!

Now, today’s lunch! A Capresse pizza with side salad. With medicine and a complimentary tiramisu macaron. Yum!

Had my first inspection with my property manager this morning, I’ve never had a problem but I really wanted to prompt that awkward convo about when I can have a fur-baby? I thought it might go something like this “So, I really want a miniature Shetland pony. I had ponies as a child!” (Shaking head, no I didn’t) no? “How about a kitten? Maybe?” (Hopeful, raised eyebrows?)

New Furbaby
She said she would speak to the landlord.
Fingers crossed.

Good Mental Health Day

Well, briefly, shall immediately digress from standard post procedure to say people with a disability will know what it’s like when a doctor asks when was the last time you had a fall?

Dr visit

Now, I can say 6th March 2018. Yes, that’s yesterday now. I confess to say, I’m a bit of a Daisy-Grazer with my left foot. I do have a Drop Foot after all. So, my left foot swings out and while following my mum through a Freedom Homewares store in search of bathroom accessories I collected a large frame on my left, my right foot continued and when my left foot didn’t follow through, I kinda went down landing on my right knee, then my forearms. I’m lucky I didn’t hit my face or my head. All in all, not a bad effort. Looking forward to my bruises…….

fall

The lovely office manager and mum sat with me on the floor (bit dusty) with me until I was ready to get up. I don’t love people just lifting me up, I’m stubborn and prefer help, but to get up myself, even if it is challenging, awkward looking or hurts.

Anyway, back to today’s standard offering. Ortolani with a side salad and todays medicine.

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Ok, I have some catching up to do on photos and explanations, because occasionally I’ve had lunch out, unreported because I ate before forgetting to take a photo as proof.

Friends

So, last week I went out for lunch with a friend very local to home and my friend had this – I’ve had it previously. It’s a quinoa and cauliflower and chickpea salad. I would add chicken strips because I eat meat so just try to imagine it?

Quinoa

I had the salt and pepper calamari with salad. It was missing some colour this time. Pomegranate season must be over.

Calemari

Yesterday, I got it together despite it being a great day to stay inside with air conditioning, I went on a big adventure to deliver some of my muffins in my old neighbourhood. On Hellonwheels, ending my adventure at a cafe for a coffee and some writing. This was the medicine I had.

Latte 1

Even had a little visit with Wilbur yesterday. The newsagents he resides at during the day has relocated in recent weeks. The cat-Mum had to tell me where he was hiding. He is settling in well but his new favourite place is behind the registers and under the bench top. She encouraged me to reach over the counter and I to a hole where my hand met with Wilbur’s head. I gave him some scratches and pats and rubbed his ear.

Cat hiding

I have my first inspection in a few weeks and despite the law not coming into effect until 2019 (so far away!) I’m really hoping I can start to prepare for my next fur-baby! Sick of being that weird crazy cat lady without a cat.

And of course, today. Today’s offering is a pancetta quiche with side salad and my standard medicine! (Need to mainline my medicine today; straight in the vein!)

Good Mental Health Day

Is it hump-day again?  Monday went to plan. Tuesday early plans fell over and didn’t leave the house. (Well apartment, but semantics!) this is why I love my Wednesday’s and my routine so much.

Hump Day

I’m forced to do adult and get to appointments and I schedule lunch so I don’t wait until I get home at 5pm.

Being adult

Today’s offering is a nice Zaffarino Arancini with the standard side salad and my medicine! (Tobey is back: note artwork on top?)

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Having to fight a migraine since Monday when I had a call from my mum while in the taxi. (Yes, I love her but we do not communicate well at times) and prompting Young John to ask why I let her speak to me so?

Cranky mum

Have had a final push with all things NDIS and it needs to be said, because on the upside and because my mum has likely now spoken to every single person at the NDIA, she squashed someone’s incompetence and stopped me potentially being blacklisted by the NDIA!

NDIS

Any wonder I have a migraine! So really intend to enjoy lunch today!

Today’s offering (forget the name!) is marinated Mediterranean vegetables with a side salad
and my medicine!

And if no-one has said it today? Happy fucking Valentines!

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Now, you all should be aware by now Melbourne is dealing with summer and while my happy place is 25 degrees, today it’s 37 degrees and I’m out in it!

Hot day

These are the days hellonwheels serves me best. Particularly because I had to stop at a post office to collect a parcel. And then when I parked outside acupuncture I had to ask the lovely Angela to take the parcel inside. (For security) I already take my flag in so it doesn’t get stolen. It’s happened once, it’s not happening again!

hellonwheels parking

So, then as I watched a tram go past I received a message from Young John, he couldn’t help me today! On that topic, was in the Young John taxi Monday when his wife rang. Young Betty told me they were not going to move back to Greece! (Thank God!) She calls him each day when she finishes work (she is a nurse) and they chat on speaker phone so I always get to give him some cheek and chat to Young Betty.

Taxi

So, back to lunch.

Today with limited time to scramble, I have a lovely pancetta quiche with side salad and my standard medicine. No pretty leaf on top today. Tobey must be at lunch. No! He’s on holidays! How dare he! (note, not a question)
